Well, there's a photo I never expected to see in my life. Noam Chomsky palling around with Steve Bannon.

Recently someone referred to a doctor's appointment that I paid for out-of-pocket as "less than official" and I worry that attitude may become more common with M4A. The insurance company is not your guardian.
I just take serious askance to "if you don't want to have to ask for permission from a doctor who can control your entire life or deny you care, to get care, you must be rich and if someone acknowledges that this is frustrating it's privileged capitalism" & it's why the left/M4A are so alienating

men describing pregnancy: it's not a big deal, your body was naturally designed for it

women describing pregnancy: yeah 7 of my toenails fell off, my liver and spleen switched places, my lung fell out of my butthole, and I began seeing an entity known only as "the shadow lady"

Our family has been through losing a baby, and then through having a newborn with a serious infection. I would do literally anything to avoid having to go through either of those events again. Devastation and terror outweighs feeling sad because your baby is crying over getting a shot

I have to assume that a lot of these parents have never had to be genuinely afraid for their children’s lives, because that is something that changes you on a fundamental level. And that’s just not a state of affairs that was possible any time before vaccines, when HALF of kids didn’t grow up

I get so mad at people who are like "but it's SO SAD I can't put my baby through that."

My medically complicated eldest child first had sedation at 4 months old. They've been under general anesthesia...13 times? I think?

You can deal with your baby crying for two minutes every few months.
Since becoming a parent I have not, in fact, understood the parents who say “if you were a parent you’d understand” about vaccine hesitancy. Being in charge of this fragile little miracle has me saying things like “give her all the vaccines. Turn this baby into a pincushion” to doctors

The Lewis Chessmen

These 12th-century chess pieces are packed with personality, and have such charmingly expressive eyes! ♟️ 👀

From a large gaming hoard discovered on the Isle of Lewis, Scotland, in 1831.

uhhhh what? the number of likes on this is disturbing.

there is no widespread misuse of disability accommodations, much less by elites, who have far far easier ways to abuse the system.
I think filling the top ranks of our education system with people who got there in part by abusing a system designed to help disabled people will select morally deficient people for leadership positions in our society and is worth taking steps to avoid bsky.app/profile/padr...

On your deathbed, you will probably not be thinking, "at least I totally owned those trolls on social media," and if you are it's unlikely there will be anyone there to hold your hand as you go
The most precious commodity you have is your attention. You don’t have to waste it on poor-faith debates or arguments with strangers if you don’t think they’ll be productive. You can prioritize the things that matter to you and make your life richer.

Once you accept the framing that there are Good Groups and Bad Groups and the latter must be purged from society and the former must have special privileges without oversight, it matters very little what you *call* these groups; the gates of a bottomless atrocity machine have been thrown wide open.

Fuck that noise, do it even if you're old. I learned tattooing at 43. I learned editing and publishing at 46.

There is always still time to do or learn new stuff.
I'm old.

If you're not, listen to this.

Get a guitar or some drums, or a trumpet. Pick up a brush, a pencil, some clay or a welder.

Just make shit. It doesn't have to be good (eventually it will be) just make music, art or write or whatever.

It's literally never been more important.
