Doing your budgets or schedules with a technology that routinely hallucinates is a terrible idea (as is contracts, legal advice, etc.).
Doing docs with AI is making the primary source of truth unreliable for the team and creates ambiguity or conflict, and thus also a terrible idea.

As the backlash to generative AI in video games continues to pick up steam heading into 2026, it'll be fascinating to see what is considered "made with generative AI." Can a dev team say they're not using AI if they're writing design docs with Copilot or using chatGPT to make schedules and budgets?

This is wild. The Indie Game Awards retracted Clair Obscur's GOTY/debut indie wins for undisclosed use of AI during development.
The IGAs Nomination Committee is officially retracting Debut Game and Game of the Year, awarding both categories to new recipients. Additionally, we are retracting one of the Indie Vanguard recipients.

I am aware that a lot of that stuff is used behind the scenes without me knowing. Stuff that wouldn't require a "steam disclosure" and thus I cannot fully boycott every game using it in that sense. But if I can I want to for as long as I can. Bc boo-ing might save us from this being unavoidable.
