not a first run but I saw the workprint of Blade Runner in the theater before it got the bluray release. this was in uh...1999, I think.

my only actual first run flex is probably The Matrix.

now I'm thinking about it, I did see every star wars movie after the original series in the theater. :/
Have asked this before and always like the responses. What are your biggest “I saw that in the first run cinema” flexes? Couple of mine:

Transformers: The Movie (1986)
Batman: Mask of the Phantasm (1993)
Office Space (1999)

*nodding* HP Lovecraft. Sure.
I think the last few years have really proved that you can’t trust someone who really enjoys emailing other people

Forums are nostalgic to people of exactly my age, but I think they just have a different combination of the weaknesses of chat clients and social media. I think what ppl miss is having a small, close-knit community, and that's increasingly hard to replicate as corpos own it all.

is it insane to anyone else that "detain" became the verb of choice when describing what the boot squad does to people? why are we using this instead of at least "arrest"?

This is especially funny because when this came out a lot of people argued it was too simplified, too easy and in other words too modern
We gotta go back.

worth noting that the second rich people stopped being afraid of mobs tearing them limb from limb, they stopped building libraries and opera houses and stuff and started ripping the copper wiring out of the walls of society instead

The bodycams will be left on when it helps them and turned off when it doesn't, just like other cops do
the fact that ICE instantly agreed to use body cams should be all the evidence you need that they accomplish nothing and everyone in power already knows it
Kristi Noem: “Effective immediately we are deploying body cameras to every officer in the field in Minneapolis.”

The Epstein emails should really end the debate over whether society should have billionaires. "Do you want there to be a class of people so powerful they can fuck your kids and no one will even try to do anything" seems like an easy sell if everyone in politics wasn't trying to get on their payroll

I'm reminded of the time the Biden DOJ decided that Trump should be protected from one of his defamation suits for no other reason than because he was president one of the times he defamed one of his rape victims
There is nothing shocking about class solidarity among the ruling class. They were, in fact, cynical and ruthless about protecting the power structure.
The thing that shocks me most is that all of this incriminating stuff was sitting at the DOJ for 4 years and Biden & Garland were not cynical or ruthless enough to use it against Trump & Musk in the run up to 2024.

If only they were the evil ‘weaponizers of government’ that MAGA claimed they were!

I'm so jealous honestly. Imagine having a mayor who likes your city and its people and isn't just an asshole
I have genuinely *never* seen an NYC mayor get an ovation from a TV crowd before. I thought we were contractually obligated to boo them.

remember, you can yell scream and curse at the political fundraising texts, but DO NOT reply with an actionable threat because the US attorney’s office considers the volunteer batch sending them to be a live human recipient of that message. it’s not just a bot. those cases can and do get charged.
I didn't make this, but it needs a reposting.

Next up: a phased system of tax credits available to victims of ICE harassment with incomes under $75K who were brutalized in calendar year 2025 & have been enrolled in community college for a year or more but less than four years, notwithstanding other deductions.
I am introducing the Quick Recognition (QR) Act, which requires ICE and CBP officers to wear uniforms featuring QR codes. When scanned, the code would generate a digital ID displaying the officer’s name, badge number, and law enforcement agency.

ICE should be unmasked both physically and digitally.
