I’ve got a wild idea here…

What if, now stay with me…

What if Christians were to check the wisdom of the scriptures for how to treat immigrants?
““ ‘When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the Lord your God.”

Leviticus‬ ‭19‬:‭33‬-‭34‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Even if you leave the Church and become an evangelical like they are, MAGA still does not consider you human.
The Trump administration arrested and detained two gospel singer brothers from Guatemala who have lived in Memphis for 10 and 20 years. The administration lied and claimed one had an extensive criminal record. Neither does. One has now been deported.

This quote here is refrigerator worthy.
This reminds me of Cardinal John Henry Newman's book Definition of a Gentleman. I often cite Newman's book because it's so instructive. The term gentleman is so overwrought and frequently abused, but to the degree it means anything at all, I think Newman captures it here:

Yes. An absolute duty!
For over 300 years now, it is a bedrock principle in Anglo-American constitutionalism that obedience is owed according only to law. Refusal to follow an illegal command is not only a moral choice but an absolute duty.

For Treasury Inflation-Protected Securities, monthly CPI values are used to interpolate daily index ratios that determine accrued interest

Without CPI value, regulations for TIPS call for a synthetic number “based on last available 12-mo change in CPI”

1/ The supposed "college grad crisis" is a challenging labor market for young people of all educational levels, driven by cyclically weak hiring.

Over the past 12 months, the unemployment rate for HS grads in their late teens was 15.3%, the highest (ex-COVID) since April 2017.

I'm not saying the Trump Administration is stacked with Soviet assets.

I'm just wondering, if they *were* Soviet assets, what would they be doing differently?

They misidentified the intern. The judge told them they had misidentified the intern. But instead of double checking, they took that as an affront to their authority. So they surrounded the judge's car and threatened to smash the windows to get to the intern.

They had misidentified the intern.
The part where they threatened to break a judge’s car windows should be a bigger story … they feel comfortable treating judges this way, which means they are being told that they can do literally anything to nearly everyone

If ICE will threaten to smash the windows of a Superior Court Judge's car, they will do it to anyone and everyone.

Straight madness.
“ICE agents then surrounded (Superior Court Judge McBurney’s) car and demanded everyone to exit the vehicle, threatening to smash in the windows if they did not comply.”

NEW: ICE has finally released post-shutdown detention data. The latest data reveals that a full 40%(!) of people arrested in the interior and held in ICE detention have no criminal record; no criminal charges or prior convictions. That is up from just 4% when Trump took office.

The official position of the United States government is that swastikas aren't hate symbols and displaying a Pride flag is a fireable offense.

This is not ambiguous signaling.
State-sponsored discrimination encourages private discrimination.
Exclusive: The U.S. Coast Guard will no longer classify the swastika, nooses and the Confederate flag as hate symbols.

The military service drafted a new policy that classifies them as “potentially divisive.”

They lied about it. All of it. A thug cop shot an unarmed woman five times without justification, boasted about it to his colleagues, and then this administration tried cover it all up by arresting her and charging her with felonies.
Absolutely incredible; after shooting Marimar Martinez 5 times and arresting her on claims that she rammed them and pulled a gun, prosecutors have now moved to dismiss ALL criminal charges against her and her codefendant.
New: the govt has moved to dismiss its assault case against Marimar Martinez and Anthony Ian Santos Ruiz, two people accused of "box[ing] in" a Border Patrol vehicle in Chicago on Oct. 4.

One agent shot Martinez, with evidence presented to the court that he later bragged about in text messages.

I think these various threads today on housing costs are important. And I agree with the point below.

Variation in incomes continues to widen. We have to look at cost impact on below-median incomes (perhaps even more like bottom 25%) instead of averages.

A lot of wealthy families in the US!
This is wrong Matt. Averages can't describe the problem. It's distributional.
For below-median incomes, housing costs are high even after making significant compromises on size, quality, and location.
And even those numbers are understated if owner costs are part of the computation.
