An actually pretty good cover of "Take On Me" by a Norwegian prog/metal band (the video is a "making of" sort of thing, with the actual song coming in at about 11:05):

It happened again yesterday: I informed someone they were Canadian who didn’t know they were Canadian. This has now happened about 10 times for me. Americans, take note: if your parent was a Canadian citizen born in Canada, you are a Canadian citizen. And there’s a law working its way through…

ABSOLUTELY true. this is a great post and an issue i have talked on time and again. these tests, especially for adults who have learned to mask, is usually very poorly worded
Neurodivergent screening tests will be like "do you struggle with wearing socks" and ND people will be like "nope does not describe me, for you see I have a System" and folks that is what the question is getting at

hi, it’s me, your friendly indie bookseller and audiobook narrator. libro.fm costs the same as an Audible subscription. an audiobook on Audible is the same audiobook on Libro. but a portion of your purchase supports the indie bookstore of your choice! you can even see our recommendations!
For audiobooks, libro.fm gets you out of the Bezosphere as well.

Hi new Bluesky users. Semi-annual reminder to follow my favorite part of this website: the Gift Links feed.

It shows any free link to an otherwise paywalled article that’s shared by anyone on Bluesky. It has legit changed how I read the news.

The thing that Trump understands intuitively that a lot of people don't is that favors are relational, not transactional. If you do favors for someone, no matter how much you might think in terms of "now you owe me", you've established a dynamic where you do favors for them.
I’ve been hearing about how Trump is “transactional” for years.

No. He’s exploitative, not transactional. It doesn’t matter to Trump what you have done for him, it only matters what he wants from you *right now*. He doesn’t give a shit about reciprocity or even paying bills.

To reiterate a post from the Other Site, for most of the last four thousand+ years, the vast majority of people living in cities got takeout. Many apartments lacked kitchens due to space and fire risk. Cooking yourself 7 fresh, varied meals a week is a VERY recent expectation.
Someone replied to me bringing up fast food by asking if I knew cooking exists and it’s a joke and totally fine but I want everyone to know that if you’re in a place in life where it’s cheaper to get food that way or if you’ve just worked two shifts, the idea of “cooking” holds no inherent nobility

Oh my GOD. Went for coffee with an old publishing mate and he told me the tale of his latest mugging. Brace for this.

(To note, my mate is a 75yo man, short, obviously quite posh, and deaf in one ear. He gets mugged a lot. It rarely works out for the muggers, for reasons that will become obvious.)

I also do #SciArt #anatomy #embroidery. I usually work from antique anatomical engravings, often adding poetic text or other aspects. This piece, she breathed (2018) is from an engraving in Vesalius’ Fabrica and has a poem stitched between the bronchi. #SciArtPortfolioWeek

One of my many pet peeves is Americans’ cultural inability to hear ANYTHING positive said in ANY context about things and people they’ve decided they hate. It’s so childish. Like, “oh, you said something not negative about this thing I hate? WHY DON’T YOU JUST MARRY IT?”

At the beginning of the after times there was a toilet paper "shortage". The land was rife with accusations of hoarding. Fears of people buying bulk to resell for a profit. But that's not what really happened.

Just like the "no one wanted to work anymore" thing, you were lied to.
