I accidentally took a selfie last night.
Photograph of an Australian Brushtailed Possum on a wooden railing. The photograph was taken at night focused on the possum's face. Crop of the previous photo showing the possum's big brown right eye in detail. The photographer's reflection is clearly visible in the possum's pupil, including a bright light for the flash diffuser (low power and diffused to avoid distressing nocturnal animals), black circle of the camera lens, plus the photographer's arms and body.

A pair of Gang-gang Cockatoos have stopped by a few times this week! The male is camera shy, but I managed to get a few shots of the female.

Photograph of a female Gang-gang Cockatoo - a grey parrot with light grey beak and orange/yellow edges on its neck and breast feathers. It appears to be nibbling on a dead branch, but was actually climbing it and using its beak as a hand (as parrots tend to do). In this light its eye looks brown. Same subject, but different lighting and pose. This is a more conventional bird portrait, with the cockatoo's back to the camera but the head turned side-on. Its soft, willowy crest is raised and its eyes appear much darker in this light. Its grey back feathers have light grey edges and thin yellow bars.

I still do art from time to time!
I'm going to be playing in an Edge of the Empire campaign (Star Wars TTRPG), and I'm excited so here's my character concept.

(we haven't even had session 0 yet, so design is *not* final final)
Handwritte title: Yanta Gol, Chiss spy/courier (sorry for my terrible handwriting) Character design sheet showing a Chiss woman (blue skin, short slicked-back black hair) in three outfits: 1. Base, with plain underwear and a moderately athletic figure. 2. Dark grey flight-suit with black boots and armoured knee pads 3. Same as 2 but with chest and shoulder armour, black gloves, a ruddy-brown half-cape, and a helmet. Note: "Covers up when off-ship to hide her Chiss heritage". There are also 5 more detailed illustrations of her head: 1. Her bare face showing one glowing red eye (right) and one yellow humanoid eye with a long scar running through it, and a handwritten note pointing to the yellow eye reading "Cybernetic eye". 2-3. Her head with helmet and black neck gaiter, front and side view. The helmet has a scratch steel surface with a satin finish, and resembles a 15th century sallet which has been Star Wars-ified (greebles on the crest and visor, and a slit down the centre of the visor to create a T shape with the eye slit). 4-5. As 2-3, but the visor has been raised showing the extent of the gaiter as it ism pulled up over her nose.

I'd never even heard of 'thrips' before until I found a Giant Thrip (Idolothrips spectrum) in my garden last night.

It was only about 1cm long, so 'Giant' is relative.

It has a very long, narrow body, mostly consisting of an abdomen (lined with small lateral spikes) that tapers to a tube tipped with short filaments. It has a squarish thorax, and its head (mostly two big round eyes) is on the end of a short tubular neck, with long segmented antennae.

A Brown Cuckoo-dove and his marvellous eye.

Highly detailed close-up of the same subject's eye. The inner blue ring grades from very light blue at the centre to dark blue to almost black on the edges, but is lightly speckled and undulating in gradation. Combined with the black pupil at its centre and the vivid red ring on the outer edge, it looks like a stellar phenomenom - a combination of an eclipse and a supernova.

It is protecting its eyes with its nictitating membrane (inner eyelid). There are droplets of water flying in all directions. The bowerbird is back on the edge of the bath, facing away from the water, shaking off the excess droplets which are shining in all the colours of the rainbow as they catch the sunlight. From this angle it's clear that the bowerbird has some of his mature black satin feathers on his left shoulder and around his eyes.
