The films are not fascinating pieces of art. But what *is* fascinating is how Cameron clearly loves all kinds of technology, from submarine machinery to cutting-edge VFX… and has used to to make a story about tribal people who rely on and fiercely defend nature. Such an interesting tension
I will never understand why James Cameron decided the waste the second half of his career making films about these godforesaken jungle smurfs.

Itʼs tree time!

As always, the rule of “no such thing as tacky” means we welcome these new baubles:

May I present the Traditional Festive Macca of 2025!

It's Wings Macca - complete with mullet and wintery jumper! An image captured by Michael Putland in 1973.

Every advert for genAI chatbots I see has insane questions I assume no real person needs to ask (“can I take off shoes in the cinema?”) or that Iʼd never trust a computer to know (“do I look good in this?”).

And with how sycophantic they are, itʼs just an affirmation machine for weirdos, isnʼt it?
Saw an advert for some ai bollocks that was like “use ai to tell you which episodes of stranger things you don’t have to watch” and I would like to invite the arachnids from starship troopers to come and put us out of our fucking misery

*goes to a natural history museum and holds up a bouquet to an Allosaurus skeleton so they can finally see some flowers*
I don’t know a lot.

But I know a lot about dinosaurs.

Now we all know dinosaurs lived for millions of years right?

But does you mind actually wrap around how long they dominated for?

Lets get a little perspective.

Did you know Allosaurus never saw flowers but T.rex did?

It's also an example of the underlying problem being the same cruelty that they now think will solve it!

The reason for expensive taxis is that they restricted bus travel to appease the same people!

JK Rowling got a full *decade* of press as a martyr for being "cancelled" (declared passe by people online) and meanwhile nobody considers it very interesting that a prominent left wing author is basically banned from entering or publishing in the United Kingdom for her politics
so this is like, one of the biggest free speech infringements by a western democracy in our lifetimes right?

Iʼve started watching Goodnight Sweetheart – saw bits when I was younger in a post-Blakeʼs 7 UK Gold Saturday morning slot. Its central weirdness as a mainstream sitcom is well documented but thereʼs little else to say about it other than rooting for a bigamist whoʼs nostalgic for the blitz is NUTS

This is disgraceful toadying to someone who could well be dead, out of office, or both by the time this reanimated corpse knuckle-drags itself to the screen. Some context: Ratner directed the state-approved Melania doc that is coming to Prime, so he's now a friend of The Family. >
I teased this last night in What I’m Hearing but now confirmed: Paramount WILL release Rush Hour 4 after prodding from Trump on behalf of Brett Ratner. Distribution deal. Producer Tarak Ben Ammar is lining up financing. Get ready for the dumbest possible state-controlled media.

The Robots of Death, which Iʼd not seen before.

Iʼve always enjoyed Leela in concept and performance, and throwing her into a high-tech whodunnit is a lovely idea. Tom is having fun but not pushing it too far at this stage of his tenure. Fun model work, good performances, I thought it was great!
What Doctor Who story are you watching today? We’re trying to decide between The Romans (because we went to see Gladiators earlier) or Brain of Morbius (cuz we’re probably gonna watch Frankenstein later)

Thatʼs meant to be about #Strictly but would make for an exciting development in the new Line of Duty, actually

Amazon: wah we donʼt know how to carry on James Bond with a new actor because the character died

Rian Johnson: Natasha Lyonne is now Peter Dinklage, thank you
Rian Johnson and his producers have hit the town in search of a new distributor now that ‘Poker Face’ is canceled. The twist? Lyonne’s out, and Peter Dinklage is in as the new Charlie Cale.

The Bond article youʼre all going on about is such bollocks that I can only assume thereʼs some internal studio politics driving the story.

If maintaining continuity was a red line, IO Interactiveʼs upcoming game wouldnʼt be starting with a brand new young Bond, surely?

The rich guys of the Gilded Age were all assholes, but they all felt the need to at least pretend to be cultured and philanthropic (the existence of Carnegie Hall, for instance). These guys are all boobs who think it's funny when 14-year-old boys say slurs.
