By a strange quirk of contractual fate, Ethel Merman isn't on the RCA original cast album, and Russell Nype isn't on the studio album Merman made for Decca, so there is no official recording of their showstopping eleven o'clock duet.

Thank God for radio and TV. www.youtube.com/watch?v=w9du...

oh one really fun idea i have is that the Supreme Court should resolve the issue before they go around making the whole country do what they say

Call Me Madam opened at the Imperial Theatre in NYC on this date 75 years ago.

Here's Ethel Merman, who won the Tony, wearing Mainbocher, while the rest of the cast wears Raoul Pène Du Bois (who also designed that fabulous set)

“Who was president in 2020?” remains one of the most pertinent questions in American politics—absurd, yes, but here we are—and that extends to “who was president January 1 - 19, 2021?”

That’s a nice trick, since Biden wasn’t the president on Jan 6.

It seems they also got rid of the organization that monitors how many Americans die, when, and of what. Convenient.

RFK fired the CDC official (w/decades of experience) leading the measles outbreak response. It's been decades since we've had such a large outbreak. And just to ensure they they can spread the measles outbreak even farther, they also fired the leadership for the center focused on immunization.
Figure showing the largest measles outbreak in the US in decades. There are over 1500 cases as of October 7 2025

I just said to my brother that we are going to spend the next few years being knocked for a loop over the greats we’re going to lose.

I also love that the night Diane Keaton won the Best Actress Oscar for Annie Hall, she showed up to the ceremony dressed like an eccentric second grade teacher.

There are so many Diane Keaton performances to remember, but a lot of people haven't seen Reds, and A) my God, see it, it is a masterpiece and B) her performance as Louise Bryant is one of the bravest, toughest, least sympathy-courting pieces of work by an American actress in the last 50 years.

The Godfather, The Godfather Part II, Annie Hall, Reds, Baby Boom, The First Wives Club, etc. etc. etc.

Diane Keaton's range was astonishing.

(Reds is perhaps my favorite of her performances)

One Star Review of Waiting for Godot on Broadway
I recently attended Waiting for Godot on Broadway and spent over $1,400 for two Row C seats (103 and 104). I'm a longtime admirer of Broadway productions and even hold a season pass for Shea's Performing Arts Theatre, so I came in with genuine enthusiasm and high expectations. Unfortunately, this show was unlike anything ! have ever experienced —and not in a good way.
What I encountered was not the artistry, music, or emotional storytelling I usually associate with Broadway, but instead what felt like an endless cycle of nonsensical conversation between characters who seemed trapped in their own madness. I tried-truly tried-to find meaning, symbolism, or even a thread of emotional resonance. I stayed through the first half hoping the second would offer clarity. But by intermission, it was clear: this was a waste of both time and money.
Keanu Reeves is an actor I respect greatly, but I cannot fathom why he would agree to participate in such a disjointed, inaccessible production. His talent was lost in a performance that defied reason rather than provoked insight.
To anyone considering attending: unless you are drawn to highly abstract, nearly incomprehensible theater, I strongly caution you against this show. For the average, educated, thoughtful theatergoer, it is far more frustrating than fulfilling. In my opinion, this was the single most disappointing Broadway experience I've ever had - an unfortunate waste of money and, more importantly, of time.

Simultaneously heartbroken and inspired to witness what's unfolding in my former hometown this week. On one side are the horrific accounts of abductions and abuse amid this unconstitutional invasion and occupation, and on the other are incredible stories of community solidarity. Bear down, Chicago.
