Today is Woodworking's PUB DAY. I'm so proud of this book, and I'm so glad to hear how many of you have bought and enjoyed it already!

You can buy it here if you're so inclined: bookshop.org/p/books/wood...

And now, the hardest sell I can think of, this book's biggest advocate has thoughts:
We won’t win the war on gender until they are gingerbread folx.
Nothing says getting into the festive spirit like going online to shout at some biscuits

The Western section of MZS.Press bookstore has lost its dad-blamed mind. We got the legendary Deadwood-themed Soap with a Prize Inside on sale for $3 a bar. Or you can get all 4 scents (cinnamon, peaches, bourbon & dirt) for $10. Lots of other bargains in there, too. LINK: mzs.press/Western-Coll...

I love technically accurate but useless descriptions. Disney+ has some great ones for The Simpsons.

This description of It's a Wonderful Life from Apple's store is technically accurate in every detail yet also somehow very funny.

some significant part of this is just catch-all fear for “this is not the child I ordered” I think
Oh, here's a big surprise. The transphobes don't believe in ADHD either.
then, the transphobes , feeling victorious at how many people they have made unhappy and despairing in the previous week, move on to anything else that has a spectrum and the possibility of more colours than they can conceive - such hateful people - they cannot understand anything that is not THEM

The media successfully convinced itself all the humorless scolds were on the left, and while we certainly have our share of them, oh, baby, is it not even CLOSE to how many there are on the right.
NEW: Dr. Oz is quite literally telling his federal employees to eat less.

“You don't have to try every cookie on the holiday table,” wrote Mehmet Oz in an email to all Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services employees.

Transition is a matter of free will and freedom. Trans people are going to do it anyway and you cannot stop them.

We are full human beings with the right to decide our lives for ourselves and no one has a right to stand in the way of that.
one of the main reasons trans healthcare moved away from strict gatekeeping and toward informed consent & GAC is that trans ppl who were denied the means to transition would simply seek it out elsewhere
What did you think would happen when you restricted access to care?

LA PRESS CLUB NOMINEE* Emily St. James!!!

*-The nomination was not for me, but I like to think it's like when the host wins an Emmy for SNL anyway.
In continuing celebration of 200 episodes...have you heard our very first episode, with @emilystjams.bsky.social, from 2021? Not only does it set the tone for the whole show going forward, but it was nominated for an LA Press Club award!

In this week's Monday Rundown: a somewhat lopsided Joachim Trier fan club meeting, a messy and interesting novel, and a nice helping of Christmas melancholy.

I haven’t read all of these, but the ones I have are all terrific. It’s a great list to be part of, in a strikingly great year for transfeminine literature.
It's my pleasure to announce the Longlist for Best Transfeminine Fiction in the 2025 TFR Reader's Choice Awards!

This year, TFR recognizes 14 titles from every genre and section of the industry 🩷

Thank you to everyone who voted early to craft this list! Voting ends December 26th at 11:59 PM EST.

Reminder that this movie rocks and could be your new Christmas classic!
I saw Christmas Eve in Miller's Point tonight as a dare to myself (because the trailer for it is SO odd), and I quite liked it. It's got a "What if late-70s Robert Altman made a Christmas movie?" vibe, and it nails the melancholic warmth of a family gathering. One cut took my breath away!! (Literal)

They are running the government according to the logic of right-wing grievance media. I cannot emphasize that enough. The point is to create content, and they don't see an actual difference between dunking on Sabrina Carpenter, passing legislation, and bombing other countries.
I don't really know what the administration hopes to gain by picking fights with the most well-liked pop artists in the United States. You're just generating backlash for no discernible reason outside of owning the libs.
Sabrina Carpenter ratioed the White House after it used her song in an ICE video.

The WH deleted the post…but now it’s back with a new ICE video, this time using an altered clip from Carpenter’s SNL monologue.

FWIW, all holiday parties are eligible here, not just winter holidays. Halloween, Valentine’s Day, Easter, Thanksgiving, Guy Fawkes Day, go for it.

But BIRTHDAYS AND WEDDINGS ARE INELIGIBLE!!!
What's a fictional holiday party you would love to attend?

My answers:

--the Christmas party from Fanny and Alexander
--the Yule feast in Nicola Griffith's Hild
--the Baileys' "welcome home" party for Harry in It's a Wonderful Life
--the office party in Die Hard; I'm sure nothing will go wrong

"Demeaning" trans people is exactly right. Their goal--and what they're most able to easily achieve--is our humiliation. The imposition of indignities. They also hope that, as humiliations often do, it exposes us to ridicule. Perhaps even violence. (e.g. forcibly outing people on their IDs).
It's really frustrating that a lot of the media just sort of frames the Trump admin as "wading into a hot debate over trans issues that have roiled american politics" when it's like, clear that they are motivated by a desire to demean trans people
