Felt like this when mortgage payments went up a few years ago - yes, it's horrible to now be paying an extra £200 a month, but that's been happening to renters year on year and there were no sadface articles on that, just "market forces" and "nobody has a right to live in a city"
This house tax pretending is making me more insane than usual because as a renter I’ve had to move every 1-3 years just as standard because rents always rise. And no one cares. House owners get a tiny fraction of that precarity and suddenly it’s the worst thing that’s ever happened

We don't tend to get this much snow in (most of) the UK but the idea that grit will bounce off the road & clear ice off the pavements & bike lanes absolutely does not work. I know two people who fell on icy pavements last year - one was too badly injured to work that day, the other broke an ankle.

I'm old enough to remember (I'm over one year old) when we were all told to shut up about labour's left wing credentials because the renters rights and employment rights bills were on the way. how are those going lxds? how are my rights looking?
NEW: The UK Government have abandoned plans to give workers day-one protection against unfair dismissal in a bid to ensure it’s Employment Rights Bill makes it through Parliament 👇

Some are suggesting you deliberately write inaccurate or confusing alt text, because they say this confuses AI scrapers that are analyzing images.

The purpose of alt text is to help people who cannot see the image. Deliberately misrepresenting the image is a gross misuse of alt text. Don't do it.

I once spent an embarrassing amount of a history lecture wondering how cats could possibly have made up a significant proportion of Ireland's agricultural produce in the 19th century before figuring out that the lecturer's scribbled handout was supposed to say "oats."
This path leads to chaos.

Delivery drivers aren't immune to motonormativity, and obviously it sucks and places unacceptable danger on cyclists and pedestrians, but read this and consider why delivery drivers sometimes park inconsiderately to be closer to their drop-off.

Urbanism and labour rights issues are inextricable.
My mum ordered a new freezer from AO and when the delivery van came, it did not have a tail lift - apparently the company won't pay for them

The two guys were expected to lift freezers, washing machines etc off the back of the van themselves...which does not seem safe

There's an advert on his website for a 'Depot Supervisor' that pays £12.75 an hour for shift work.
If he wants to reduce welfare spending maybe he should pay staff enough that they don't need in-work benefits.

It'd be cool if the "increasing the cost of motoring hurts poor people" people cared anything like as much about cost to people who rely on public transport - who are disproportionately likely to be poor and disabled, and who consistently face far greater increases in cost.

Great to hear Rachel Reeves acknowledge that "there are many reasons why people choose to have children then find themselves in difficult times. The death of a partner. Separation. Ill health. A lost job. I don’t believe that children should bear the brunt of that."

So why should migrant children?

Psst! Rachel Reeves put up the effective income tax rate by not raising thresholds. In real terms she has increased income tax, while lying that she hasn't. Pass it on.
