Here we go! October Horror Binge 2025 #Filmsky 📽️

Best month of the year. 31 days of fear! 🎃 🔪 👻

1) The Ring (2002, dir. Gore Verbinski)

Starting with a rewatch of an old favourite, which we've just picked up on 4K.
Poster for The Ring. A grainy recording of a young girl in a white nightdress, standing in a field. Her long, black hair hangs down over her face, obscuring all her features. Behind her is an old, brick well, with trees in the background. The picture is coloured an eerie blue, and an uneven ring of white light circles the girl.

Ah, brilliant. Yeah, I've only seen a third of these, but enjoyed most of them, so plenty here for me to look up. Cheers!

This is a really lovely version, thanks for sharing :)

Yeah, me too. It might often look shit (though certainly not always) but it's just so much fun.

Love Tarantula, not seen any of those others though.

63) Revenge of the Creature 1955 Directed by Jack Arnold) #Filmsky 📽️
Poster for Revenge of the Creature. The poster shows the 'gill-man', a green amphibious humanoid creature, carrying an unconscious blonde woman in a red dress. The creature has broken shackles around its wrists. At the bottom of the poster is a scene of people fleeing in terror. The tagline reads "Monster escapes! City flees in terror!"

Yeah, I'd seen a few reviews saying it fell apart in the last 10-15 minutes, but I don't think it did.

In the way it's entirely dialogue driven, certainly. It's a very different premise though, two believers sharing in a lengthy series of rituals, with one experienced one guiding a novice.

It's nothing mind-blowing, but for a very low budget film it's quite impressive though.

Was waiting to see how Olivia Reingold (who Oliver's piece destroyed almost as much as Bari Weiss) would respond, and you can see the tweet below which also shows she either did not watch his piece, or just didn't understand it, since he actually addresses this point directly.
Olivia Reingold quote tweeting Variety.

The Variety tweet is about John Oliver's piece on Bari Weiss leading CBS News, saying:

John Oliver slams Bari Weiss' takeover of CBS News:

"I wouldn’t want anyone who led a pure opinion outlet, not even one that I happened to agree with, to suddenly be running CBS News. But it is especially alarming to have someone doing it who has spent years putting out work that, in my opinion, is at best irresponsible and at worst deeply misleading."

Reingold then quotes it saying:

Why does this sound like John Oliver commenting on……John Oliver

Close up of Bollyvvitch's album cover for As Above So Below'. Album cover for As Above, So Below by Bollyvvitch. She stands in front of a dark background, dressed in a brown tulle gown and long dirty blonde hair. Her face is turned to the side, her eyes closed, wearing Indian gold jewellery and crown. Her arm is raised, lifting the dress up to look like she's floating.

62) Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954, dir. Jack Arnold) #Filmsky 📽️

A long-overdue rewatch, and given my username at the mo...
Poster for Creature from the Black Lagoon. The poster is black and white, and shows an underwater scene. At the top, a woman floats at the surface, on her back. Below, a humanoid fish creature swims upwards, an arm stretched towards her.

Definitely. Though he wouldn't bother trying to cover it up.

I scored this a 4 last time, and I honestly now couldn't tell you what stopped me giving it a 5. It's a 5.

Daniel Kaluuya and Keke Palmer are superb. The story is great, the creature is great, the setting is great. The cinematography and the score is off the scale.

61) Nope (2022, dir. Jordan Peele) #Filmsky 📽️

I enjoyed this quite a bit when it was in the cinema, been meaning to have a rewatch.
Poster for Nope. The poster shows a large, black stallion floating into the air, against a dark blue, cloudy night sky. Lots of small pieces of debris are floating along with it, and a large, thick cloud looms above.

Have you tried using the Barons caravans at work?

I still remember the phone number of my mate Rob at school, who I've not had any contact with in over 25 years.

I'm not 100% sure what I had for lunch today.

If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.
Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

Is that worse than lying about people, like you are?
