The X-Files is genuinely a timelessly good show, because when not focusing on overarching conspiracy plot, they would really just focus on a single concept and quite crucially, it would cast an incredible actor to center the episode around who would be utterly god damn captivating to watch.

Not that anything matters anymore but just on a personal level that mid 2010s period where these people got to feel like staunch antiracists by opposing the only viable left wing alternative to the shitshow we’re facing now was some of the most galling stuff I’ve ever lived through

Taxes are pretty much the only thing related to personal/family finance they do this little "what if that made someone's life difficult" dance for.

Benefits cut to the bone? Not interested
Wages eroded by inflation for decades and decades? Nope.
Technology abolished your job? Nope.
This house tax pretending is making me more insane than usual because as a renter I’ve had to move every 1-3 years just as standard because rents always rise. And no one cares. House owners get a tiny fraction of that precarity and suddenly it’s the worst thing that’s ever happened

Welcome comrade, glad to have you on board. Also just to clarify though am I going mental or are you seriously saying that someone who owns a 2m house has housing insecurity in any way the same as someone who has to rent
I think housing insecurity is bad for all income groups

All of this “woe is me my house is now really expensive and so a tax is unfair” stuff completely negates to acknowledge the implicit fact that the house owner has made an insane profit by doing absolutely nothing
Mumsnet is already on the case.

0.2% growth in productivity over five years from "AI".

That's your revolution, lads, really?

The sort of blip that could be reversed by a particularly rainy bank holiday.
Anyway, tech-wise, AI will have a "positive effect on productivity growth", the OBR say, with a 0.2 percentage point impact in five years

What a rotten state of affairs that a teenage girl had thrust upon her the responsibility of being the only adult in the room because actual grown adults refused to recognise her either as a child or, more importantly, as a human being. A sad indictment of a pitiful society.

It's funny how for some things owning a £1m+ house In London makes you a out-of-touch wealthy elitist with luxury beliefs and then suddenly when it's tax time they're back to being ordinary salt of the earth folks living in an expensive city
I sometimes feel like I am going mad.

Owning a £1.5m home is not normal in London or the South East of England.

Perhaps one more round of blaming falling living standards and a wrecked public realm on the poor, immigrants and the left will sort it? It never has in the last 45 years but it has to work eventually
