one struggle of being in a marginalized audience is that sometimes an artist who makes something for us, but we barely have a fingernail's hold on the Entertainment Review Complex

So reviewers criticize the parts that aren't for them, and the work fails because they drown us out

I still can't believe he just knocked down a third of the White House.

Nature is beautiful: here you can see the adult buses circling together to protect the baby buses from busivores that would otherwise prey on them
So this happened in Oslo yesterday. Four articulated buses got stuck in a roundabout.

This dispute will start about the rightful owner of the shirt currently on your body and that thing you said two months ago at Mimi’s memorial service. It will end with psychological warfare.

I really loved this book--it's like computer engineering as cooking and I'm here for all of it
The book I am reading now, that, despite my normal Thanksgiving day meal plans, is making me crave bao. I blame you, @johnchu.bsky.social

So what DOES make you sleepy on Thanksgiving?

Odds are good that it's CO₂, especially if you're cooking with gas.

I've seen our indoor air CO₂ spike just over 3,000ppm on Thanksgiving. All the people plus all the gas cooking, it adds up.

Anyway, I have remembered this every Thanksgiving since. I'm still grateful to friends who convinced me to go to the ER, then arranged to have my dog picked up and delivered to another friend's house when it became clear I'd be in the hospital for more than the morning.
I still have very warm fuzzy feelings about the thanksgiving morning when online friends convinced me that my extreme pain was not "worse cramps than usual" and I should go to the ER, which ended with me getting an organ removed at 10pm that same day.

...not really funny, but I think fondly of it?

I’ve loved Korean tiger art since I was a little kid (my grandparents lived in Korea and had some great examples) and it’s both surreal and awesome to see one in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade

Looking at my saved pictures of the vast array of colored tabs sticking out of a stack of Loebs in which I categorized every single social interaction (or mention thereof) between people in two specific social categories for every extant text attributed to Plautus, and nodding in agreement.
"oh, you research literature? you must get to read all the time, how fun!"

I am in full introvert huddle today, grouchy as heck, and my spouse is gently & with all love doing the metaphorical equivalent of prodding me out from under the bed with a broom.

This mostly involves bringing me rounds of milk coffee and reminding me that I'm happier as a morning person.

"Look, it was made very clear to me that this was a knife fight; I thought I was going to be the ONLY person bringing a gun, and I'm pretty sure it's cheating if other people did that." --the GOP, apparently.
The GOP entered this war under the rather childish delusion that they were going to gerrymander everyone else, and nobody was going to gerrymander them. In half a hundred places, they put their rather naive theory into operation. They sowed the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind.

Hey y’all wanna see the dictionary definition of centering yourself in a story about marginalized people that isn’t about you? Literally the picture perfect example of “you’ve got a lot of fucking nerve”?

IMO the weird exception some supposed leftists seem to make for condemning-the-theft-of-labor-except-art-lol-steal-that-shit is just a weird intersection with puritan "if you enjoy yourself, it's not a real job" brainworms.

"fun" job = member of the leisure class (ROFL) = fair game. Somehow.
Honestly, people calling creators the "petite bourgeoisie" makes me want to snap.
