The State of Olympus, a map done in collaboration with FT Cartography.

Olympus Mons or simply Mount Olympus to most modern Martians is about as true to its name as you can be. Vaulting 22km into the sky and with a base 624km wide, larger than the Terran state of Arizona...

Bullshit. Not a goddamn thing has changed.

This is why nobody trusts The New York Times.
The intense fallout from the killing of Alex Pretti has forced President Trump to publicly change course in Minneapolis.

Listen to our White House reporters discuss the changes on today's episode of "The Daily."
Trump Changes Course in Minneapolis
The White House has been met with broad outcry over the killing of Alex Pretti, as well as pushback from Congress.

Hunh. TIL too.

It goes to the importance of the Indian Ocean trade routes to Rome (via Egypt).
TIL that a delegation from the Maldives presented Emperor Julian (355-360/361-363) with gifts.

I might have guessed that there indigenous peoples on the Maldives in the mid-4th century. Never would have guessed they were a part of Rome's international network.

After a challenging fungus walk in the mountains with experts, I captured this long-exposure waterfall—shot with a 3-stop ND filter and a 10-second exposure to show the movement of autumn leaves.

What do you think?

Announced by @warhammer40k.bsky.social yesterday, the Aestred Thurga character novel is out very soon!

Had a fantastic time researching and writing this one, discovering Thurga and the Auto-Tapestry, and exploring the world upon which she finds herself ⚜️

Today's journey carries you to the Skull Nebula.

This eerie object formed when a Sun-like star expelled its outer layers in its old age, leaving behind its naked core — a white dwarf — one of two stars that can be seen at its very centre.

In Printz v. United States, #SCOTUS held that the Constitution bars the federal government from forcing or otherwise compelling local or state governments to enforce federal law.

The liberal squish who wrote the majority opinion in that case? Justice Antonin Scalia:

What you’ll get: religion, politics, suspension pods, onions.

This is not to blame the many excellent people who came to town and told our stories. They have jobs elsewhere. This is not to credit our enemy with some clever master plan. It’s pretty open. But a long winter stretches ahead still.

Nothing has actually changed here, as near as I can tell. Maybe a few hundred fewer agents deploying to Maine and Iowa, but not significantly different.

On Friday and Saturday, the Twin Cities were the center of global news. A day of solidarity. A horrific murder of a good man by masked federal agents. A city that rallied with peaceful fury. And then, as of Monday, a scapegoat sent packing. A neat story all wrapped up. Reporters all fly home.

This also reminds me to remind you to check out OATHBREAKERS by @profgabriele.com and @lollardfish.bsky.social , for the story of what happened to Charlemagne's empire after his death.
A purported demon named Wiggo is involved. No, REALLY!
Today is Charlemagne’s death day in 814 CE. In his honor, I give you the best depiction of professors writing in their offices while attempting not to socially interact with each other on any level. It’s from the Aachen Gospels. 📕
