I worked in support, and I know what this is. It is a form of weaponized incompetence. It is cheaper to give bad support and anger low-paying clients than to actually fix problems.

Given that I don't move seven figures in product, I will never matter.

Update: another bottom tier support person sent me links to a support article without bothering to read the ticket history.

😡😡😡😡

I have a growing suspicion that this is a problem which can never be solved, because I'm not personally worth enough to either company to bother. 👿

Every new email gets an automated reply unrelated to my problem.

I then have to demand escalation, whereupon I wait three days for a "supervisor" to misread my issue, and close the ticket. 😡

It took me fifteen emails across three months with Ingram and Amazon for them to tell me why SfW 4 isn't available across both platforms.

It seems there was a typo in the ISBN when i first uploaded.

Neither offers a solution. 😠

I have gotten especially bad about promo. Anyway hi I write books and I'm especially proud of this one! It's got disaster gays and a hilarious baby dragon 👀 🌈📚

A trope card with cover art featuring two women and a dragon in the centre surrounded by white text on a blue night sky background that reads: friends to lovers*, *they’re ace, found family, loveable rogue, big magic, secret baby**, **she’s a dragon, sword lesbian (she’s bi), queernormative. Haaaa I know I turned the end of this into a joke but I am interested in all of these things, even the jokey bits. I'm too exhausted and run ragged to chase these things down right now, but if you see this and have a cool opportunity I'd be a good fit for, pls reach out

Casual reminder that I'm the first self-published author to win a Nebula Award and I'm available for podcasts, guest blogging, con panels and GOH, interviews in general, translations, agents, book deals, movie deals and large sums of no strings attached money 😅

It's also one of those costumes where she needs to hold the cup so people know what it's supposed to be. Like the kid costumes with just the name of the hero printed across the chest.

I have so many questions. Not least of which being why they selected that location. Someone went to a lot of time and effort to find an office with decor from another century.

Is there a reason? Is this an art piece? I'm so confused.

They: I have not.

You know those days when you discover a new facet of your neurodivergence? A rough transcript:

They: You should share more about your life and process and feelings.

Me: Why would anyone want that?

They: It helps build a connection with you as a person.

Me: Can I just say science facts?

Incredible. Just incredible.

Good luck to the parent of witches, gays, and thieves.

Careful, my books may turn kids into magical queer criminals.

Not a problem, she already has kids in all those demos

The greatest joy I get from my books is the letters I get, the young fans being unable to manage their excitement about the next book, the fanfic I refuse to read, and when a teacher paints my words on her wall.
Words painted on a classroom wall. Text reads: "Words, themselves, don't have any power. If you write it in a book, it's just a word. The real power comes from the meaning you give it when you use it. ~stealing from wizards R.A. Consell"

I like writing whimsical books about wizards and weirdos having adventures and going to school. And I've been really lucky that my books have found their audience.

If I really wanted to sell books, to quit my day job (which I love) and make my dollars from my writing, I'd write reverse harem regency centaur duke smut.

But that's not what I like writing.
stealingfromwizards.com
Some days, I forget why I write. I let my love of graphs with upward trending lines convince me it's to sell more books.

Reader: it is not. And this is a public reminder to myself of that fact.

I write because I enjoy it. I publish because other people like what I write.

So like, literature which espouses earnest kindness and mutual care rather than smug superiority, or deep explorations of some dude's failing business and personal life?

So you have extremely well-informed, expertly crafted, wrong opinions? :P

In both of these scenarios, the bubble bursts. I'm sure there are other paths, but these seem the most likely to me (at least on this sleepy holiday afternoon) and I'm curious of other people's thoughts.

Option 2: Gen AI gets very good and basically no digitally produced media can be trusted to be genuine. There is a massive trust collapse and people retreat from internet as a source of news and information excepting a few trusted outlets.
stealingfromwizards.com
Option 1: Gen AI plateaus fairly soon. It ends up kind of good at a few things, and has some limited applications, but the costs and risks broadly outweigh the benefits once users have to start paying the real costs.

Predicting the future is generally a mistake, but come with me on my journey.

I look at generative AI right now and see two obvious paths. Both lead to its ultimate failure as a business...

Is this a normal use of "anymore"?

I've only seen it in the negative, as in "not anymore."

Curious if it's regional.

I'll take my wins where I can get them anymore.
