this is not Bill Barr 2.0. this is in fact explicitly designed *not* to be Barr 2.0 even if they *had* someone as good as Barr, which they don't.
there is a specific provision in the bill that requires the White House to justify any redactions made to Congress. if the DOJ classifies all mention of Trump, they will have to disclose that to Congress along with the legal justification for doing so

Hours after Speaker Mike Johnson confidently declared that Senate Republicans would "fix" Thomas Massie's bill requiring release of the Epstein files, the Senate just passed the bill as is by unanimous consent without any changes. A massive, embarrassing debacle for Johnson.

It now goes to Trump...

Massie on Johnson: "He wants to create a provision of this law that would exempt the very people we're trying to expose -- the men who raped these women. He says, 'We'll make sure they are credible allegations.' Is he calling the survivors we witnessed today un-credible? That's the implication"

lol, lmao at johnson just making every single problem thune’s problem now
Mike Johnson says he's talked to Thune & he's "very confident that when this moves forward in the process - if & when it is processed in the Senate, which is no certainty - they will take the time methodically to do what we have not been allowed to do in the House. To amend this discharge petition."

congratulations, instead of Medicare for all, you invented “high-deductible health plans + HSAs” for all.

I’ve written a piece on the curious lack of media and political interest in the issues faced by our national @britishlibrary.bsky.social. This is strange given we live in a world where ideas, knowledge and research are a long-term source of innovation and insight

The British library is in crisis: why does nobody care?
The widespread indifference to the British Library's crippling cyberattack demonstrates a perilous failure to value the knowledge infrastructure vital for national prosperity

While the specific incidents are hilariously randumb, the fact is that Trump chased almost every minimally competent professional away from the possibility of working in his second admin.

The defining feature of American political journalism is that they demand the deference, respect, and privilege of serving a vitally important societal role while simultaneously rejecting any of the commensurate responsibilities and obligations.
