an intro note to pin to my profile:

Hello! I’m a political columnist & editor. I have left-wing views but I value independence and critique actors and ideas across the political spectrum — including those on my side. It's okay if you don't always agree with me; I often don't agree with myself.

Some personal news: I’m preparing to run for Zohran’s Assembly seat.

As a Queens mom, an immigrant organizer, and a democratic socialist, I’m ready to fight for the working people of Queens! LET’S WIN THIS!🔥

Former DSA leader Diana Moreno hopes to replace Zohran Mamdani in the Assembly
She is one of three DSA members currently planning to run for the seat.

The thing that drives me crazy about the whole enterprise is that there is no substantive position other than "it is disrespectful to question leaders," a kind of unthinking institutional conservatism masquerading as ... "independent" renegade thinking??

wake up babe, a new way of saying "we just put 14,000 people out of a job" just dropped
Which is to say, if the NYPost was culturally literate instead of filled with illiterate xenophobes, they'd know it's completely accurate.
A lot of people here don't know that in many South Asian cultures, this is literally *the accurate terminology* for referring to an aunt. So this isn't even something like a casual drift in terminology, or loosely referring to a loved one as an aunt or an uncle.

Absolutely mind-boggling that this insane rhetoric is coming from a professional communicator.
Isaac is an excellent interviewer, but if you see KJP in other recent interviews you'll see that it's not hard to get her to sound as if she has no clue what she stands for. It's particularly hard to watch with the premise of her book / new identity being that she's "independent."
humiliating interview. KJP is a remarkable figure honestly.

In my Chicago neighborhood this weekend: candy drive for kids who can't safely go out to trick or treat because of ICE; big visible letter-writing campaign at an outdoor block party; low-flying Blackhawk helicopter over a children's baseball game; whistle brigades everywhere. #chicagostrong

Human beings were not built to be perceived by 1000s of strangers every single day. Again, this is not natural. The younger you are the less tools you have to withstand this.
speaking in really broad strokes, in general "fame" broadly defined is unpleasant in many ways for most people., and it fucks up probably a plurality of them?
for sure! and also a better baseline for what's "normal" and better intuition for when validation is coming from the wrong place.
I think most adults don't either! And many who think they can handle it become visibly psychologically and spiritually disfigured by it. I'd probably sub in "resilience" or "stoicism" or "healthy ego & ability to detach" for "fortitude" in terms of how I'm thinking about it though.
I think I'm probably going to delete my post because, to your second point, I may be underestimating the diversity of grievances among the crowds and was abroad during the last one (so read online about it).
