🧵🧵🧵 I'll be collecting reviews of the "Melania" movie in this thread. 🧵🧵🧵
Variety:
"A Cheeseball Infomercial of Staggering Inertia"
‘Melania’ Review: Brett Ratner’s First Lady Documentary Is a Cheeseball Infomercial of Staggering Inertia
There's no drama to Brett Ratner's cheeseball First Lady documentary, which should have been called "Day of the Living Tradwife."

There seems to be a fundamental misconception about journalists and the First Amendment. You don't get 1A rights in exchange for being accurate and impartial. The ideal of journalistic neutrality was inconceivable to the founders. Journalism in the 1780s was partisan! And they still protected it!

The war on journalism started with the lawsuits and the CBS takeover. Now they're picking off individual journalists, who not coincidentally are Black and independent.

You may not like Don Lemon, you may think he's biased, but his First Amendment rights are *everybody's* First Amendment rights
Warnock on the arrest of Don Lemon: It’s chilling, and I think that is the intent. They intend to send chills down the backs of journalists. The authoritarian march is happening in real time, and it’s way past the time to wake up.

I went to Sarah Lawrence. We were very polite when Liddy Dole spoke till the Q&A when my pal Dana was like “Mrs. Dole, are you a scab?”
I like neither Ezra Klein nor shouting down speakers. I think Ezra Klein profits, metaphorically and literally, by being shouted down by Sarah Lawrence students, and that doing it to him was more or less like trying to discourage a dog by throwing bacon at it.

I for one am curious what Melania opening night will look like
NEW: Ahem. For all of you "Melania" nay sayers out there, there are at least two sold out shows in the US for tomorrow's global release. Are they both before 3pm? Yes. Is one in Florida? Also yes. @regret.bsky.social reports: www.wired.com/story/we-fou...
We Found Two Theaters With Sold-Out ‘Melania’ Opening Day Screenings
A WIRED analysis of nearly 1,400 Friday showtimes of Melania found only two with no tickets available. Both are before 3 pm.

Fun fact: Bruce Springsteen never liked being called “the Boss.” When I worked at Rolling Stone, our style sheet said not to call him that *per his request.* The man does not like bosses

I don’t know what the camp potential of “Melania” is but maybe it could have a second life as a Rocky Horror-style audience participation midnight movie where someone says “I propose a toast” and everyone throws toast. Come dressed as your favorite White House aide or Cabinet member. Just an idea

Finally got around to a bit of research I'd been meaning to explore, and: There is no documented instance of an ICE officer being identified and assaulted while off duty because he wasn't masked. www.pbump.net/o/ices-excus...
ICE’s excuse for wearing masks has never actually manifested
There have been incidents of harassment and threats. But there are no apparent incidents in which identified ICE officers have been assaulted off-duty.

Just FYI, Tom Homan, the "border czar" who's been sent to Minneapolis as some kind of "de-escalation," invented the family separation policy of Trump I. Remember that?
A 5-year-old Minnesota child detained with his father at a Texas immigration facility appeared lethargic during a visit Jan. 28 by members of Congress, who demanded the family’s immediate release and an end to the use of family detention.
Lawmakers visit 5-year-old Minnesota boy, who appeared “depressed” in detention center
Reps. Joaquin Castro and Jasmine Crockett demanded that preschooler Liam Conejo Ramos and his father be released.
