Basically it’s down to denial vs procrastination now.
sitkaworldsfair.bsky.social
That’s kind of you but literally all I did was say standard stuff while being a white guy.

don’t get me wrong, I’m more than happy to do that any time it can help. but this isn’t about me.
sitkaworldsfair.bsky.social
And an apology would be nice.
sitkaworldsfair.bsky.social
Cool.

You have seriously disrespected my friends and allies. Please move along now.

I think the blurb is from senior?
sitkaworldsfair.bsky.social
You will continue to fail to recruit people if you continue to be unwilling to actually hear what they are saying.

And quite honestly I’m offended that you have been more polite and gracious in disagreeing with me than you were to my friends here. So please move along now.

It’s an overstep.

He ran for president to be president. He served two terms.

He’s retired.

Neither of those facts is relevant.

There’s a bigger theme that you’ve been missing all along and I’m going to say it as clearly as I can.

After 400+ years of some of the most inhumane treatment that any group of people has had in human history, and ongoing failure to address that, Black Americans Do_Not_Owe_This_Country_Anything.

No, you only believe in saying “gosh that’s a sad situation” when other people are splitting groups. You want Black people here for all hands on deck because you think you’re at risk.

They’ve been shouting for help for fucking decades and I don’t recall a whole lot of people saying “oh, unity”
sitkaworldsfair.bsky.social
And if you want to trot out this nonsense “that’s how democracy works,” i would ask you to think very hard about whether people who are still systematically excluded from so much of this country, publicly and privately, should be lectured about how democracy works.

As for this silly idea that he benefits materially from the fact that he was president - yeah, that’s just how time works. It doesn’t come with a reciprocal obligation.

There are dozens of well-known political figures who are straight cis white men, Republicans and Democrats, who have been silent.
sitkaworldsfair.bsky.social
No. Once someone leaves office, that’s it. Public service is over.

It doesn’t matter if they are still getting secret service protection (which btw Trump would cancel for Obama in an instant if he had the ability).

It’s not just Trump voters who repaint the world in their imagination.

If you’re reporting on the uninhibited actions of a half-trillionaire white supremacist maniac because “like him or not, he’s a player in the business world” then don’t edit what he says. Investors have a right to know that too.

This is the response I received from ICE when I inquired about the 13-year-old they abducted from Everett, Mass. on Friday:
Good afternoon, Marisa.
Please see the below from DHS on the 13-year-old alien.
Please feel free to direct any questions to them.
Respectfully,
James

Great thread on the distinctive political culture of Portland, by a US historian who is very much from Portland.

What The Hell Is Going On, a thread:

I’ve seen some thinkpieces and posts about Portland protests that fail to understand the long-term hyperspecificity of Portland culture/humor, and frame it as a sort of shitposting meme-pilled ironic thing. Which is wrong.

So I’m gonna give you my breakdown.

I mean, there’s a reason we already have heard terms like “managed democracy” and “illiberal democracy.”Hungary and Russia hold elections, too.

Why bother to cancel them when you can steer victories through mass media, creating technical barriers for opposition candidates and voting, etc?

The idea that political dissent can only be the product of “paid protesters” or “outside agitators” has a long history. Here is the Mississippi columnist Tom Ethridge in June 1963 concerned that attendees at the upcoming March on Washington might be “whipped into a frenzy by skilled agitators.”
“Aug 28 has been set as the date for this mass invasion of the captial by upward of 100,000 negroes…”
