But back to re: death threats, this is, hands down, one of the most poorly understood/low viz dynamics of the modern republican party. It practically shapes everything they do now in some capacity but it is also an unspeakable fact because it violates everything we’re allowed to think about them.

tougher media coverage would have made it harder for them to do that, it would have increased the mental cost of "I am going to cast a ballot for this guy", but it wouldn't have eliminated the sense of "I deserve this lower-price borgar" or "magic money man can turn time back to 2019"

Everyone on here intuitively understands that hanging out with a bunch of Nazis on Twitter creates a powerful social pressure to accommodate yourself to far-right views, but then refuses to acknowledge that largely the same dynamic also exists on here with regard to some pretty nutty fringe leftists
