"handheld meat pie" implies the existence of the vehicle-mounted vegetarian pie.
"handheld meat pies" is truly the most cursed phrase anyone has ever used to describe this part of our national cuisine
* New Zealand takes pies (namely, handheld meat pies) so seriously that there are National Pie Awards that get major media coverage. The New Zealand National Library has a whole dedicated category for “Pies — Competitions.”

Sweet hairy Jesus; so much to unpack here. Rant incoming. tl;dr Once again local govt is told by central govt to do more things without commensurate funding, while other people milk it. Typical Nats. Socialise losses. Privatise gains. #nzpol www.rnz.co.nz/news/politic...
No more regional councils - major shake-up of local government announced
The government says it is not a power grab, but about "making local government fit for purpose".

Who reduced the member tax credit from $1040 to $521? National
Who then reduced the same member tax credit from $521 to $260.72? National.

Don't believe National on Kiwisaver.

new gmail update is 100% to force you to autogoobrain yourself and juke the slopstats because turning it off disables every single rule and dumps everything directly into the inbox, especially and particularly all of the spam it was supposed to be blocking.

I think that reading every cyberpunk story I could get my hands on in the 90s has made me simultaneously very prepared for this time in history and also inexpressibly morbid about it.

Exactly this. This is both an act of deliberate cruelty towards a marginalised, vulnerable community and a trial balloon to see how far they can push, and how fast.
(Going by the last two years and the pace and volume of erosion, and active targeting of vulnerable people - very far, and very fast.)

One of the few good things about living in New Zealand is that you can look at the Labour Party and if you are like “wow I’m way more progressive than/left of them”, then you simply don’t have to give your party vote to them and move on with your life guilt free and vote for Greens 🤷🏽‍♀️

Some of you point out that the big players have used various tricks to keep their own $ safe. True.

That's why we need to think about how to prosecute them for fraud.

Those bubble-inflating claims - AI will cure all disease! end climate change! double lifespans! - are essentially Theranos X 1000.
The AI bubble may be about to bust.

Peter Thiel has sold all of his Nvidia stock.

We all need to say this very clearly:

NO BAILOUTS FOR THEFT-TECH!

Expropriate their asses instead.

They stole from all of us and fully plan to burn the planet.

They owe us - not the other way around. 1/3

The internet is a very good metaphor for the rest of society in one specific way: things aren't bad because people are just stupid and lazy. Things are bad because a lot of people worked incredibly hard to make them this bad, because they gain some benefit from that.

Normally when polling is hurting a political party, you can use a crisis to showcase your leadership & gain valour, be it warranted or not

I genuinely think male police have a problem with women. we're shrill, demanding, upset, emotional, take up too much time complaining about all the rapes & assaults & murders against us. we never shut up, right? always harping on about what men have done to us. we do it because it's fun & soothing
