I'm not sure what it's gonna take for people to realize that being subject to a sick burn in a judicial opinion is not something that will dissuade Trump or his cronies. They will push and push and try again and again until something sticks unless they are sanctioned and punished!

I think one thing that is remarkable over the last half decade is how moderates could step and run the show but are too dumb/convinced of their own helplessness to actually do it

People hugely underestimate how much transportation affects them except in these moments where a bunch of people are about to get it that didn’t before. Transportation is mobility and mobility is the spatial exercise of freedom.
Sounds funny today, but not long ago, the use of bicycles by women was considered *extremely* radical & dangerous--to be discouraged, even by supporters of women's right to vote.
All bc bicycles allowed women a tiny bit of freedom & mobility, without needing things a male guardian could withhold.
Suffragist and educator Frances Willard riding her bicycle, Gladys (because it made her glad).

“I learned to bicycle when 50... and I think it is one of the best things I ever did. What pleases me is to see other worn-out women take it up, and find a new lease of health and life thereby."

it’s pretty simple: you can either induce demand for things that suck and people hate (traffic), or you can do it for things that are good (bikes, the McRib)
The latest evaluation of bike lane projects in Boston continues to show that if you build bike infrastructure, people will use it.

Amtrak has a problem: There’s more demand than it can handle. Trains regularly sell out, year round.

The need for more capacity is evident year-round, as the most popular parts of routes sell out or are available only at shockingly high prices

As Train Travel Surges, Amtrak Needs to Buy More Trains!

Borealis is suffering immensely from this problem. If you live in Wisconsin vote for pro-rail candidates in the legislature in 2026 and encourage them to include funding in the next budget cycle for additional rolling stock. A $100 million+ investment is sorely needed in Wisconsin.

Fucking hell, this is so bad.

I feel like so much politics/electoral discourse has to do the same two-step as crime/justice:
How do you succeed when the primary tool is completely broken and incompetent.

We have to navigate a situation in which most political journalists are just hot garbage.

Insane but true fact: making US roads as safe as Canadian, Australian, or European roads would save more lives than eliminating murder from the US.

I've had a missile blow up next to my airplane, been shot at dozens of times by anti-aircraft fire, and launched into orbit — all for my country. I never thought I'd see a President call for my execution.

Trump doesn’t understand the Constitution, and we're all less safe for it.

Wisconsin is a somewhat surprising although it does include the eastern part of campus.

47% transit share here. Seems like a lot of good bus service though

Peak transit mode share declines precipitously after this, perhaps suggesting these top 8 are the only real cities in the country. This Pioneer Square tract in Seattle is very well served by transit & is facing gentrification pressures & housing shortages like much of the West Coast

Hiawatha update: took us 20 min (literally) to go from Union Station to Western due to maintenance work and Metra interference.

Will be real nice once we move onto the CPKC freight railroad, lol

The left should take credit for building an economy this difficult to blow up! But they refuse to take the win here because it means conceding some points in the intrafactional fight against libs
I feel like the left more broadly wants economists to say that the economy is in shambles right now and the current "eh, I mean it is deteriorating but pretty slowly so far" is not satisfying

I always think it's funny that the US developed pretty much the optimal--by revealed preference--kind of suburb (close-in streetcar suburbs) in the early 20th century and then spent the rest of the century trying furiously to undo that good idea
as will notes, people tend to *say* they want suburban living. they want a big house and a big yard and etc. this is not however what is suggested by their actual purchasing practices, which invariably result in something like this:

Taking the Connect 1 out to Tosa and
1) the construction congestion on 94 should really allow it to excel with the bus lanes

2) despite significant traffic, I did not see any drivers try to pass traffic by using the bus lanes.

When drivers did use the bus lanes, it was to turn right as designed

Just wanted to shout out the Green line driver of 6256, who was a real example of MCTS excellence, being friendly to all riders, managing rush hour crowds, and being considerate of riders’ desires to get home quickly.

This is a nuts story. An AI chatbot and image platform left millions of images exposed. They show what people are actually using the AI for: taking random women's yearbook, graduation, and social media photos and making super realistic hardcore porn with them

Its popular on this site to blame everything for Trumps return on Merrick Garland, but if it werent for the singular interetence by John Roberts on Trumps behalf, Trump would have been tried and almost certainly convicted over Jan 6th in late summer/early fall before the election.
Chief Justice John Roberts rigged our democracy, helped Trump retake power, and is now discarding legal and constitutional constraints on Trump's actions.

But Roberts needs Trump, too. This symbiotic relationship means there is no hope for course correction.

This is all John Roberts’ fault
Trump owes his corrupt and abusive reign to one man.
