Here's everything I've done so far on broligarchy, all in one place, starting with my Inauguration Day interview on @thedailyshow.com with Jon Stewart, through multiple BlueSky threads on the subject, some other interviews & a couple articles in @theatlantic.com. 1/9

It is amazing what degradation people will overlook if you just promise to punish their preferred scapegoats...and women have been prime scapegoats for millennia, a custom ultimately reflected in the voting patterns of both native-born and immigrant men in the US.
www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024...

The male vote is the problem--across racial lines.

Trump picked up more votes among men of color in each of the three most recent presidential elections, largely on the strength of promising to oppress women: a promise on which he delivers visibly each day.

Yup. And saying people should know how to write words is "elitist." Saying "literacy is good and important" is being equated to bigotry.

It's language used for the purposes of thought-stopping, to ensure obedience.
In private, abusers do this to gaslight targets: the repetition itself effects a kind of hypnosis or at least cognitive exhaustion.
Cult brainwashing train ppl to do this to themselves per @cultexpert.freedomofmind.com.

I guess that's better (slightly) than the boss I worked for who bragged about never reading any books at all.

We read you loud and clear.

They generally approve of the oppression of women as a group, which Trump is visibly delivering daily.

Not you Faulknerposting on Main!

This is what comes of listening to the songs of @alyankovic.bsky.social on the Dr. Demento radio show as a teenager!

And the gender roles

We first note that hand-wringing about the decline in US college enrollments has mistakenly linked such declines to the price of four-year colleges.

But the decline is entirely driven by two-year community colleges (and by for-profit colleges). The four-year sector is the dog that didn't bark.

The social sciences and humanities teach people to think critically and to notice systemic patterns in human behavior, such as unjust inequalities: exactly the habits of mind that authoritarians abhor.

I hope they filled the pockets with glitter.

Wow, they couldn't even get photos from the right era! That image is definitely from the 80s--likely late 80s, based on hairstyles, clothes and the (in)famous red cups.

Only a he-man alpha male would fear wearing the jacket of a female FBI agent--the contamination risk from GIRL COOTIES must have been extremely daunting for poor Ka$h.

Thank you so much!
"Strong floor, no ceiling" is very literally the basis of like every Gilded Age political cartoon

The guy who tried to overthrow the government made his way to the presidency by touting his violent misogyny.

Does that ring a bell?

Hard to keep track of which guy in which country, because publicly abusing women is a common route for fascists to ascend to power, worldwide.

the primary thing that TPUSA provides to young conservatives is a blueprint for weaponizing the abject cowardice of university administrators against individual teachers and instructors, and university admins should take a long look in the mirror and think about what that says about them

English actress Ellen Terry. This photo looks amazingly modern but was taken 161 years ago (in 1864). Ellen Terry went on to have a distinguished acting career and passed away in 1928. (Photo by Julia Margaret Cameron).

Many thanks! It got optioned for television series development (fictionalized, not documentary); fingers cross that comes to fruition in some way.

I’ve read 3 books on offshore wealth/corruption in the last month and @ebharrington.bsky.social’s was far and away the best. highly recommend. (And once again, a crystallizing work of sociology tempts me with delusions of doing a soc PhD myself)

Precisely my point. Plus, his track record of repulsing Trump administration stunts & threats.

I met him briefly ~40 yrs ago when I was 14 & he was already so impressive as a no-BS guy who would stand up for what's right that I never forgot him.

He's been a great IL Gov; would be a great POTUS.
