the BEST thing i learned from being online during the good (pre-Elon) twitter days was to recognize arguments done in BAD faith

much appreciation for lawyers, scientists, health professionals, journalists, the menswear dude, etcetera being themselves and absolutely destroying bad actors

our "adopt a rent" venmo campaign paid 43 families rents who were at risk of evictions, including several moms of 4+ children

this is the way to get rent paid fast. like. 1000x better than any other way.

One of my most problematic traits is that I an super judgmental when rich or famous people have to use their influence to get their kids into colleges that aren’t particularly selective. Like you completely failed and should be embarrassed by all of this.

The Trump era exposed how badly Congress erred over decades by granting the president emergency powers in certain situations while also making the president the one who decides when we’re in those situations.

ICE can’t mask except when ICE’s boss says it’s necessary? Repeating that same mistake.

Utah's chief election officer, Lt Gov Deidre Henderson, has conducted a review of the state's voter rolls to identify any ineligible voters, including by running her rolls through the DHS SAVE Program. Guess how many non-citizens voted in Utah according to the review? Zero.
Utah voter roll review finds no evidence of noncitizens casting a ballot, Lt. Gov. says
An ongoing Utah review of 2.1 million voter registration records has found one noncitizen who registered to vote and zero examples of any noncitizens actually voting.

one of my strongest beliefs is that we're in our situation right now bc some of the most prominent talking heads (e.g. joe rogan, andrew schulz) are learning about politics in their 40s and 50s, instead of their teens and early 20s, and we have to go along for the ride as they learn basic things

Elon Musk and others LOSE their bid to duck depositions in DOGE litigation.

Judge doubts protections for "high-ranking government officials" for multiple reasons. It's unclear they ever had that status, and Musk "left government service."

Facts that bear repeating.

i know that this is an unpopular take, but everyone starting their own newsletter as a revenue stream is not a sustainable model for writing and reporting or for people who love and want to pay for media.
A lot of people cannot just start a paid newsletter or become freelancers to sustain their careers. The sports, metro, and international desks did work that requires *team* resources, like legal checks, documents, access to archives, and long-term beat experience.

I don't think it's hyperbole to say that the only way to ensure a free and just society for our children and grandchildren is to enact policies as soon as possible that tax billionaires out of existence, removes their influence from politics, and breaks up the companies they've consolidated.

This degree of movement so fast on an issue among American voters feels…almost unprecedented?

Political scientists, help me out here.
74% of Democrats support abolishing ICE, with 53% *strongly* supporting it, according to YouGov polling from last month.

Weak calls for "reform" are coming from *elected* Democrats like Chuck, not the average Democratic voter.
Democrats want commonsense reform for ICE:

End the roving patrols and racial profiling.

Take accountability and abide by the same rules as local police.

Masks need to come off, body cameras need to stay on—no secret police in the United States of America.

But the gestapo attacks haven’t stopped. At all! bsky.app/profile/jyse...
ICE hasn't stopped brutalizing people or shredding the Constitution, it's just that corporate media turned the camera as the call for action got too loud and the Democrats stepped in and made sure the issue got changed.

If you sit for a second, you'll recognize that's what happened with BLM, too.
