love this!
I would like to share something.

A year ago, Trump won and I was furious and scared so I sent a text to a few of local women I knew and asked them to join me at a meeting and invite like-minded women they knew. A few showed up, then a few more. We became a group called The Salon and we meet monthly

i wore an extremely colorful, cool outfit today, and that felt good (i have been struggling with what to wear as an old, not having as much money to spend on clothes this year to continue adapting my style, and also just disliking current trends and clothing quality)

we're now doing 21st century phrenology? pull the plug
Researchers are now saying that AI can find correlations between facial characteristics and success on the job.

The Economist says that corporations would have a “strong incentive” to deploy this technology when looking at applicants.

"Where management wants to cut labor costs a la Amazon, shift to cheaper contract labor a la Klarna, or execute layoffs for ideological reasons, a la DOGE, “AI” is an extremely potent justification."

Appreciate this corrective to the executive narrative: www.bloodinthemachine.com/p/what-the-h...
What’s really going on with AI and jobs?
Record-breaking layoff reports, Amazon's mass firings, and a slump in entry level employment. Is AI behind it all?

If I weren't a writer I would've been an archivist. I learned so much in this interview w/Malika Desire, reference archivist at the NYPL. We discussed her work, her favorite question ever received, and the witchy display case she curated for the NYPL!

in some ways i feel for rosalia because so many people are trying to pin her into a genre in order to make sense of her. as with books, i feel like this type of rigid thinking misses the point more often than not

this is the fundamental truth of the GOP's rhetoric for the last decade, and yet it's something i have to remind myself of over and over again—especially when accusations seem weird / out of left field
Once again: every accusation is actually a confession.

i haven't even started to dig into this, but like...literal crimes about violence against women (and how to defend against it) being discussed over email is just guys being guys, but women in media make 1 spreadsheet to share information that might keep one another safe, and that's bad

The value of reading history is you know that in 1860 there were abolitionists who were so demoralized that they thought chattel slavery would be permanent. 5 years later those still alive had lived to see its end.

Same! My life improved because of the ACA. Quitting a difficult job that made me miserable was a big risk—but I could take it without bankrupting myself because of the health exchange.
The ACA made my whole self-employed life possible. For almost ten years, I was able to build a career that actually worked for me AND keep receiving necessary care to address the consequences of childhood medical neglect. And I still deserved better. We all do.
