For thirty years I worked in the post-Soviet successor states in Central Asia and observed over and over again precisely the cycle that Bill Kristol describes. Corruption leads to authoritarianism, directly. The path is utterly predictable.

Buckle up, I think we’ll be seeing a flood of this kind in the coming week. Seems like marching orders are to flood the zone with unapologetic confessions.
Because they’re trying to normalize it in the court of public opinion.

They’re doing “shout your abortion” except abortion is moral and legal, while they’re attempting to mainstream statutory rape
And why does this person want to share this with everyone?

as someone who really thought there wasn’t much there for the longest time I cannot draw any conclusion other than “they are monumentally terrible” at this point
man, what the fuck is in these files that would a) be worse than anything we have ever learned about him, b) make him willing to risk a maga civil war over it, and c) have him desperately calling half of the republicans in the house and begging them to vote against their release
Trump on Epstein Files: I don’t want to talk about it because fake news like you—you’re a terrible reporter—fake news like you just keeps bringing up to deflect from the tremendous success of The Trump Admin

god I remember the fandom Russian zoomers on Twitter during the start of the war who were either "what can I do, I can't be held responsible" or "wow it's so mean that the West sanctioned us from our favourite fandoms"
I often have trouble explaining to people that the Russian youth is just as dumb and evil as the rest of the population

I remember you saw a similar dynamic when the Canada US trade war was a lot more hostile where people were like, "why is Canada talking about cutting off energy exports?"

I guess be worried when people in academia go silent or only do likes & reposts. Work leaned hard on staff to stay quiet due to how close a call our budget worries are. We still have our Title IV participation application pending. I want to write more but institutional survival comes first.
For the bajillionth time:

Write WTF you want to write. If you want to get to “publishable” that is an additional layer of craft from “look, I made this.” This is true whatever genre you are writing in.

Sales are largely out of your control. Craft & hitting deadlines are all you control.

okay so why is this post still up & account still existing? actual question. the account isn’t even verified like some of the other fed gov accounts either, but also it shouldn’t matter when they post “we will kill you” along with videos of them killing people.

Sorry, but we only hire the best border patrol agents ...
So… A BP agent filmed in LA in June kidnapping someone from a Walmart got arrested by Long Beach cops after drunkenly flashing his service pistol in a women’s restroom. He demanded they call BP Commander Bovino. After making bail he died of a drug OD at his parents house. lbpost.com/news/isaiah-...

We obtained hours of body-camera video that give the fullest — and perhaps last — glimpse of Agent Isaiah Hodgson’s mindset when he became a flashpoint in the fight over immigration raids.

To be fair, it is much much easier to create a national police force that uses excessive violence on everyone than it is to get one cop to stop shooting people so.
