Lord, is it wild to me how much of major entertainment media is just a long form infomercial for the saddest products made by the saddest fucking people on earth with too much goddamn money.
Everything about this might be the saddest thing I’ve ever seen

The vast majority of schools in this country are not run by education teams but by admin who want to run it like a business designed to inhale tuition or are stuck in a public system leveraged to hell w/debt. Our country has spent decades abusing & eroding it so AI is not a surprise.
It’s blowing my mind that schools, universities, public services would run headlong into this. We spent 15 years documenting black boxes. This is a black box in a black hole!
I don't understand how anyone can watch how blatantly Grok is manipulated to answer the way ownership desires it to and then act like the other LLM chatbots couldn't possibly be similarly but less obviously compromised to produce responses in whatever way corporate interests and priorities dictate.

When onboarding people into a specialized trade, it is hammered into you from the jump that you should minimize jargon in order to make the learning process smoother. This also applies to world building, and you should always act accordingly. There will be PLENTY of time to get them buried in vocab.
i love when characters are like "it's like a [specific unique thing to this fantasy world] getting [specific circumstance unique to this world]" as a terrible way to exposit something about the world while looking at the camera, eyebrow raised, like "cool worldbuilding, right?"

(no i dont)

Inspired by someone elsewhere, I hereby vow to try to avoid the terms "content" and "content creator," unless I *must* talk about work across so many fields that a generic term is the only one that will suffice. Let's not reduce art, criticism, journalism, etc. to an undifferentiated smear of Stuff.

#GMery: Reading through Legendary's new African Bestiary & I love how the answer to, "How do we know that this priest is actually an Ajogun, a spirit of death & disease?" is "He ashy, he so ashy it makes him look pale" XD.

The art is so good and I know a few POC TTRPG friends who will laugh XD.

What happens when you get elite capture all over your industry or worse, you give it up freely. The whole of the old school big companies become domesticated, and no one trusts the sheep enthusiastically leading them to the slaughterhouse saying it's "shelter".
The “google is using your email to train AI” debacle is imo most instructively seen as tracer dye for multiple failures: many people are instinctively skeptical of tech companies now; and many outlets that should have had experts able to cogently weigh in and go “wait a minute” simply don’t anymore.

There has literally never been a universal basic income trial program that didn't deliver real and measurable results above and beyond any other form of social welfare, and every time another concludes with the same findings the powers that be go "interesting! Anyway," and pretend it wouldn't work.

I also wonder, if non-conservatives ever take the supreme court back, if they'd extend the same stare decisis to the Roberts court that the Roberts refuses to give to any court before it. "Liberal" justices need to be willing to overturn every Roberts decision or else them taking over isn't useful.

It's all hard. You may not remember being taught how to do it. Or maybe practicing was fun, and didn't feel like work, so it didn't register. But doing anything is hard.

That is something I'll be meditating on for a minute.

He said "Shit son, doing anything is hard. Hammering in a nail straight is hard. Anyone says something is easy they just don't remember being taught how to do it. Or practice didn't feel like work."

NEW: The exodus of corrections officers from federal prisons to ICE comes amid shortages of critical supplies, from food to personal hygiene items, for both staff and inmates.

It threatens to make the already grim conditions in these prisons even worse.
As Federal Prisons Run Low on Food and Toilet Paper, Corrections Officers Leave in Droves for ICE
Many of the problems the agency is facing now are not new, but staff and prisoners fear an exodus of officers could make life behind bars even worse.

I feel like the last couple decades of "is representation good or not?" discourse missed more important questions of "how fragile is representation?", "what do we do when multiple industries eliminate it as an intentional move against us?" and "how can we sustain queer artists when shit goes south?"
"According to the report, [...]during the 2024-25 television season, queer characters increased across platforms by 4%, bringing the total to 489. However, the Thursday report found that 41% of those characters will not return." www.thewrap.com/glaad-where-...
