A big thing about people who think like this is that they don’t realize: learning how to be happy for other people is a HUGE step in the direction of learning how to be happy for yourself.
How that would help me? Because I already do that but the fact that I have nothing to celebrate myself make me just bitter in return
It's like clapping and be happy toward people about having cake without having ourself cake

im rewatching The Shining for the millionth time and while i think the book does some things better (getting us into Jack's head) the book is a story about a good man swallowed by ghosts and Kubrick's story is about a family annihilator, and thus much, much scarier

We got to the farmer's market cheesemonger before all the mustard seed gouda was gone today, so I'm just gnawing on the full chunk like some sort of creature, living deliciously and all that

back in the day the closest thing we had to 4chan was a neighborhood kid with an incredibly dirty room and a vhs copy of Faces of Death

I saw myself as maybe all in for J.B. Pritzker

But I am losing faith, rapidly.

Police state fascism in America is bigger than Trump. It's backed by Democrats just like Republicans. And it's not going anywhere

Note: it's not even curfew yet.

State police just started pushing people off the business park corner. Here in the road, a brave group of demonstrators are attempting to hold their line.

I was talking to someone who claimed he had "given up his rights" because of the crime he committed. Which is untrue, regardless of how awful the crime is.
storyslug.bsky.social
I believe everybody has rights ot nobody does. Because that's how it works. You're an easy mark for fascism.
storyslug.bsky.social
People. Rights of people.
storyslug.bsky.social
Great. Still has rights. Can't give them up regardless.
storyslug.bsky.social
How it works and how it's supposed to work are two different things. You should never give the government a category that is free of rights, because they will eventually find a way to stuff more people into it.
storyslug.bsky.social
Rights belong even to the most horrible among us. If raping children gives up your rights, the government will just call you a child rapist so that they don't have to give you rights. This is inportant.

Fun fact: last week I got my royalty statement. It was for the last 6 months, and it was for my two books that have been banned.

Just so you know how rich we get off banned books, that check was a whopping $51.

No, not a badge of honor. No, not money-making. KIDS JUST LOSE ACCESS TO BOOKS.

Unbearably violent images from Downtown Chicago where a classical music concert was played on the Chicago River. This is too elegant and magical to be seen.

I don't know if there's such a thing as a "world cyberwar" but I think we are in one? and the US is determined to lose it. 🧵

Today the admin is mass-firing the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), the nation's cybersecurity protection across all levels of government.

For some context the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly report in addition to being just a good read, to quote wikipedia, "is the main vehicle for publishing public health information and recommendations that have been received by the CDC from state health departments. "

BREAKING: Friday night massacre underway at CDC. Doznes of "disease detectives," high-level scientists, entire Washington staff and editors of the MMWR (Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report) have all been RIFed and received the following notice:

A billion dollars is the socio-political equivalent of a loose nuke, and we should work as ruthlessly and diligently to prevent the acquisition of the former as we do the latter.

“The problem with billionaires isn’t that they’re hoarding money that would otherwise pay for a Scandinavian social utopia. It’s that their money has become a source of wildly distorted political power that allows a few men with extremist views to wreak havoc on the rest of us.”

The greatest crime Trump has committed is making me support Bolton and Comey.

WSJ reports that DOJ is going to charge John Bolton.

In case you needed anyone less sympathetic to rally behind than Jim Comey.

Prosecutors in Maryland are expected in coming days to charge one of Trump’s first-term national security advisers, John Bolton, now a top Trump critic, with mishandling classified information, according to people familiar with the matter.

I've given instructions to my reporters that if I ever send something like this, they have my permission to frag me.

News: Bari Weiss just sent a memo to staffers at CBS News asking them to produce a memo explaining "how you spend your working hours—and ideally, what you've made (or are making) that you're most proud of."

One CBS News staffer puts it like this to me: "We just got Elon Musked."

Oh yeah, I've thought about this so much that I'm pretty sure my subconscious thinks it's likely to happen. Like a kid worrying about quicksand.

Well yes, but with the dying kind of void I assume there's no me to be conscious for it.

I just imagine that on a long enough timeline the planet dies and I get trapped floating through the void of space able to feel pain but unable to escape.

For the record, this IKEA office chair is more comfortable than the ones I've used in most offices and it's only $300. I'm pretty sure back when I got mine it was only like $175, but tariffs gonna tariff, I'm sure.
The Markus office chair from IKEA, a mesh-backed chair with lumbar support and a cushioned headrest. The armrests aren't adjustable, but otherwise it's a really good chair. Leans hella far back.
