I appreciate Ruben G for making my choice to support Swalwell for Governor much, much easier.
My instincts were right about him 🤷🏽‍♀️

The senator also made disparaging comments about the appearance of democrats, writing, "Dem women look like Dem men and Dem men look like women."

Honestly, I don’t like doing public posts about other people in “the arts” that are negative. I don’t know if you’ve noticed.

I do make a few exceptions, like for the guy who threw Harvey Weinstein a bachelor party decades after his own girlfriend told him all about Harvey.

Tarantino, who never saw an old movie he couldn’t rip for content, is the most hilarious spokesman for this message.

Self-awareness is a great virtue. He has never been burdened with it.

This is the first time I’ve watched the Macy’s parade with an eye open for a commercial I declined to audition for because the money was insulting.

Exactly this.

I don’t want to hire a robot to kiss my wife or eat ice cream for me, either. Writing is on the long list of things I love and won’t outsource.
Writing isn’t boring!!! If you’re using AI for the parts of your writing that you find boring, WHY ARE YOU WRITING?!?!?

Literally!!! Ask yourself!!! Why are you doing this!!!!

I will repeat til the end of time, the Vonnegut quote from MOTHER NIGHT:

We are what we pretend to be, so we must be very careful what we pretend to be.
Friends,

If I have never communicated with you before about anything ever,

And your first communication with me about anything ever is extremely troll-like,

My first thought is going to be "that's a troll," not "that person is on my side but is cleverly perfectly satirizing a troll"

Remember your favorite creator possibly might be struggling with imposter syndrome and doubt and this timeline sucks.. so if you find yourself thinking “wow I really relate to this persons work” or that persons work gives you joy, you should probably tell them. It’s a hard time to be a creative.

People have no idea how little it takes to move the needle a little bit for a writer. I didn’t know this, but it tracks with what I know.

Promote the Hell out of the things you love. The more obscure the better.
I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

This is a great article and related not-too-tangentially to what I posted the other day about “your favorite writers are all struggling to get by.”

After you’re done reading, you could also consider taking a look at my Patreon…
I post a new version of this every other year or so, and every year comic book page rates stay the same. Five years ago, people were getting paid $240 in '25 dollars; today they are getting the same $150 a page.
The one about comic book page rates – again. News flash: Comic book page rates are STILL stagnant, after all these years, and for indie cartoonists it's even harder

Sometimes a little piece of terrible writing gets stuck in my mind.

Everyone was focused on how awful that “100 Greatest Comedies” list was. They were right. It was awful.

I’m stuck on the writer referring to Cleavon Little as a “scene stealer” in BLAZING SADDLES.

He’s the star of the movie.

one of the coolest things about ChatGPT is how you can actually just never use it. you can fill your whole entire life with simply not once using it. it's incredible.

One Thanksgiving, my sister tried to make a baked ham. She went overboard on the cloves… and forgot the pineapple/sweetener glaze.

It tasted like I imagine human flesh might taste. It still haunts me. I say this as someone who LOVES ham.
yes, hello, I would like to place an order for everyone’s funniest stories of holiday food-related family grudges / drama / chaotic incidents / lore

I feel like we need this

Thread about the new fun term everyone learned this week. Cutting edge linguist that I am, I learned it, to my horror, in the late eighties.

The movie was called TRU LOVED. It’s probably streaming somewhere.
I feel like I have to tell this story now.

I was producing a low budget movie, and Jane Lynch had a small part in it. We were shooting on a very hot day, with a crowd of extras, including children.

She said, “it’s so hot! I’m felching.”

I said, “no. No, Jane you are not doing that.”

I’ve always felt like these “fans” were the answer to the question “What if QAnon had a Batman fetish?” Confirmed.
It is 2025 and comic book fascists still can’t let go of their embarrassing obsession with a failed cinematic universe. I don’t think they understand how hilarious they seem to normal people as a result.
