This is HUGE. Hard to overstate the importance to this event to the town and region. The international comics publishing will also take a hit but they have many other ways to promote and sell. The comics festival IS Angoulême.

Two people were shot at a gas station in my rural town in Mississippi today.

I guess 500 troops are gonna have to be taken away from their families during the holidays to come occupy my small town now too, huh?

Hey wow Seoul Station has a giant LED screen in the main hall just like Moynihan Train Hall but also uses part of it for a fantastic animated train status and information display.

Imagine that.

I missed that @samthielman.com wrote a great piece about the genius Gilbert Hernandez for the NYTimes!

Look, there are a lot of characters, but if you can keep up with Marvel you can keep up with the Luba/Fritz-verse.

I wrote to Alan, to ask if he minded if I use an element from one of these in Aphra and he called me up and said he has no memory of writing this, but sure.
197. In case you didn’t know, Alan Moore wrote some Star Wars comics in the 80s for a UK Star Wars magazine. It is clear from the content that he was not entirely sure what Star Wars is supposed to be. They’re awesome.

This is a great article and related not-too-tangentially to what I posted the other day about “your favorite writers are all struggling to get by.”

After you’re done reading, you could also consider taking a look at my Patreon…
I post a new version of this every other year or so, and every year comic book page rates stay the same. Five years ago, people were getting paid $240 in '25 dollars; today they are getting the same $150 a page.
The one about comic book page rates – again. News flash: Comic book page rates are STILL stagnant, after all these years, and for indie cartoonists it's even harder

I regret to inform you there is more Olivia Newzzi: the print VF will feature a nude portrait by artist Isabelle Brourman that is also destined for Art Basel Miami Beach. Notably, its inclusion appears be a surprise to VF staff. VF looking worse and worse here. www.artnews.com/art-news/new...

By the way, it's National Editor Appreciation Day.

Nobody ever reads a great article and thinks, "Dang, that was some tight editing." But editing is a big part of how it got to be great.

So writers, if you've ever worked with a good editor, shout 'em out.

I had a couple of interviews today with potential Beat/KCB contributors. Both women. Both mentioned that they have had problems with stalkers. It's been a constant thing I've heard during this process.

I enjoyed Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein, but I couldn't help but be struck by how much the design for his Creature, played by Jacob Elordi, resembles the design I did for Scholastic Books back in the late 1990s. We both paid attention to the source material.

And Stephen Miller’s attacks on NYC were completely undercut by Trump
