7/ Pottery/clay/ceramics. It's incredibly humbling - even if you do everything right, it can still come out horribly wrong 🤣
A 4" wide ceramic jar and lid with a vivid blue/green/chartreuse glaze in a turtle shell pattern, the "frozen pond" technique. One of the glazes used in this technique is a "flux", and causes other glazes to move and bloom into different colors. Another of the glazes is a celadon, which doesn't move at all. When you combine dits of the flux glazes with one that doesn't move, crazy organic "firework" shapes emerge in the "frame" of the stable glaze. A stoneware case shaped like a beaker with a very narrow neck. The vase has a drippy glaze on it, matte and metallic and cloudy pale greens and blue-greens. A small plate with a Chinese cloud texture impressed on the surface. The clouds are "outlined" by an underglaze a shade darker than the celadon layered atop it. Half a piece of a small bowl with the cloud texture. Clay is super fragile after it dries but before it's bisque fired, basically just fancy dirt like an anthill. I picked this one up and half of it stayed on the shelf, no idea what happened, likely it dried unevenly and caused this crack.

I hate him

I hate his fucking face

I hate his fucking voice

I hate his burnt sienna fake tan

I hate his tiny anus-shaped mouth

I just fucking hate him so much but most of all, I hate what he’s done to our country.

This seems like a persistent problem--it feels like what really happened to LA and DC never fully got through, is already in the process of being forgotten, and now lots of people seem only vaguely aware of Chicago's situation. How do we get more people to care before it shows up at their doorsteps?
peoplesfabric.com
So many people i talk to mention that their out-of-state friends or family have heard little to nothing about what’s going on in Chicago.

Some viral stories like the South Shore apartments raid or Rev. Black getting shot break through but the persistent Fed violence in the streets in lost.

Today in Portland, a fed shooting pepper balls from the roof of the ICE facility was so eager to aim for people’s heads, that after shooting one photographer in the head and another in the upper arm, they accidentally shot a DHS agent in the head. This photo shows the moment of impact;

if we are going to have a supreme court that is as powerful as it is, i basically think justices should be forbidden from public comment on their work as well as any supplemental source of income while they are on the bench. (they should also ride circuit again but that's a bit separate.)

The substance of what she's saying is bad and unconvincing, but more fundamentally, I really don't think Supreme Court justices should be going on book tours where they publicly comment on their work and respond to criticism of it. Either put it in a written opinion or hold your peace.

Amy Coney Barrett defends heavy use of the shadow docket: "If we wrote a long opinion, it might give the impression that we have finally resolved the issue, and in none of these cases have we finally resolved the issue."

And take away their power to choose their own clerks, give it to an independent body with an explicit remit for diversity away from Ivy League hires. It's a racket.

This brings to mind Captain Vimes boots theory of wealth. Rich people pay a lot of money for well made boots that last them a decade or more. Poor folks buy crappy boots that they can afford that then wear out in a year. By the ten year mark they will have spent way more than the rich guy.

to add a data point to this thread, i just bought a j press MIUSA shirt that ran me $185.

Let's look at how much it costs to produce a button-up shirt in the US. 🧵

Coping with the fact that tomorrow is Monday by convincing local strangers to send me pictures of their pets throughout the week.
Chalk art on a sidewalk of a multcolored burst of angular lines, under which "GOOD DOG" is written in fluorescent yellow, pink, and black with an arrow pointing up to the line burst, encouraging people to put their dogs in the middle and take a photo because sharing pet pictures makes the world a better place. At the bottom of the sidewalk it says "SHOW US YOUR DOGS!" with the handle of the art instagram @rocks_on_the_block

People are delivering pictures of their good dogs by night and I love that for me.

On dating apps, the ones employed as cops or military are absolutely out of the question. I don’t even have to ask their affiliation.

Ppl shouldn't have to ask why anymore 🫠 At first it was bc they can abuse their partners/women who reject them with impunity, now they just do it on video.

the actual story here, which the media never talks about, is that police in this country have become a discrete right-wing political operation. the story isn't about cops leaving (they're lying about that), it's about the police trying to exert influence over elections.

The NYC MTA is transitioning to OMNY tap-and-pay cards, rendering swipe cards obsolete by June 2026.

OMNY is notorious for tracking riders through our devices, digital wallets, and credit card top-ups, and the MTA is besties with the NYPD. MTA Surveillance is a given.

SCOTUS has announced it will review a Hawaii law that forbids gun owners from bringing firearms on private property without the property owner’s explicit permission.

If it falls, the court could make it harder for states and cities to keep guns out of everyday life. trib.al/lrF0Sqm
