“everything sucks/everybody dies and nothing is resolved” is the most realistic type of fiction and there isn’t much of it…

even when contents are brutal, violent, & depressing, there is usually hope, or competence — some resolution or detente. closure.

It makes sense in a patriarchy that the age of consent is 18, while allowing child marriage to get around age of consent laws, because the law isn't about protecting children who are too young to consent to sex with adults, it's about protecting a father's property to maintain marriage value.
