While it may be an oversight in Verhoeven’s Starship Troopers (1997), a desire to display absurd amounts of nudity or social commentary, it’s interesting the fictional parodic fascist soldiers that desire nothing but death hold better views on public showers/toilets than the UK anti-trans extremists

Nothing really bad has ever happened in the entire history of the United States.
honestly i think you could probably describe the vast majority of American media, political, and corporate elites as decadent

nobody knows how bad things can get
you'd think that the fact that the president is currently trying to get the Feds to arrest Senators would be what the NYT editorial board would focus on but...

I see the gizmo cult has made its way into the NYT

love the idea that while ICE won't respect your civil liberties they will totally let you get away with shooting one of them in the head.
Thats cool, in texas stand your ground laws exist. plus dead nazis are a bonus.

I've heard a lot of shock about how they've never encountered students this intellectually dishonest, incurious, etc, but these students are by far the majority among evangelical Christians in "flyover" country where it is a norm for Christians to, literally, protect their soul from their intellect

having seen a lot of East Coast professors commenting on the Oklahoma essay thing, one thing really jumps out: by and large, East Coast professors, particularly at the more elite schools, are not going to encounter the type of evangelical Christian who wrote that essay

My example of this was 20 years ago, my profs at MIT were shocked to learn that religious homeschooling is a thing, underestimated by a factor of 100x (context was being surprised the issue came up in military recruiting policy discussions, and military reps having to explain the #s)

too many people want to have kids but don't want to parent
some significant part of this is just catch-all fear for “this is not the child I ordered” I think
Oh, here's a big surprise. The transphobes don't believe in ADHD either.

I was very skeptical of this video, but I found a reddit thread where @sarahmackattack.bsky.social - who knows her stuff - says it's real, so it's real!!
Absolutely buzzing over this new video of a rarely seen giant squid

Not that anyone gives a shit about hypocrisy anymore on the right, but if you applied this same sort of reasoning to the Second Amendment you could confiscate any gun more advanced than a flintlock musket
The evidence is the text. All you have to do is read the Constitution.

I would like every idiot who, when Greene turned on Trump, started to believe the enemy of their enemy was their friend, to take a look at this. Sometimes your enemy’s enemy is just that.

LESLEY STAHL: You contributed to the toxic culture. You were out there pounding, insulting people

MARJORIE TAYLOR GREENE: You've contributed to it as well

STAHL: I want you to respond to what you have done in terms of insulting people

MTG: I'd like for you to respond to that

It genuinely makes me sad how many people believe the moon landing was faked. It was one of the most amazing things our species ever achieved! We just collectively stopped believing that we could do anything cool I guess.

And even if we were at war, (allegedly) smuggling cocaine is not a belligerent act. Especially since most of the relatively small slice of South American cocaine that passes through Venezuela goes to Europe.
None of the people in the boats the US has illegally bombed are "in the fight" because the US is not at war, no matter how much the Trump regime insists

I feel like it is fundamentally incompatible with decency if you would murder someone to avoid being fired.
BRENNAN: Do you have confidence in Admiral Bradley?

HIMES: What it raises is what happens when an apparently good man like Admiral Bradley is placed in a context where he knows that if he countermands an order he's uncomfortable with it's very likely he'll be fired

Upsettingly, there's a very real possibility that Biden was the best President of my lifetime
I don't think he genuinely believes that. I think he is trying to make MAGA types mad. Because everyone is 12 now. Lol he triggered them.

This is not an endorsement of Gavin Newsom's strategy.

Protestants especially view the "red letters" as direct quotes, of Jesus, which makes them the most reliable words of God in the word of God. Prog Xtians are happy to be mad at Paul, but the Red Letters still have to be perfect. Problem is that the gospels are also just ancient literature
I was taught (in Catholic School) Jesus wasn't founding a religion. He was a Jew, discussing things relevant to other Jewish people. All his followers were Jews--same deal. Later people made this a religion but not right off. And the text should not be read literally as exactly how things happened.
