Sorry but the commercial where Garfield is at the vet and the vet is like “Lasagna? As in … lasagna?” That’s good advertising comedy.

Every day that Schumer and Jeffries don't do this speaks volumes
It is baffling that Democrats didn't hold a press conference within sight of this destruction. It's a perfect visual metaphor.
Democrats gonna announce a press conference to demand the demolition process be halted

the conference will be scheduled for next wednesday

sorry but "severe financial distress" is not possible when you're owned by one of the richest people in the world
Some news: The Washington Post is preparing to cut newsroom staff even after several high profile exits. Bezos’ new opinion editor has privately told people The Post is in “severe financial distress.” Details in @status.news www.status.news/p/washington...
Pain at The Post
As morale sinks and top talent exits, staffers at The Washington Post are bracing for more pain ahead of the holidays—raising questions about Will Lewis’ leadership, nearly two years into his tenure a...

The President can do anything he wants to do. And this isn't even a "the law is irrelevant" situation. If he calls a guy to wreck the White House and they let the bulldozers on the grounds then who's stopping him? No one.
As a matter of current law, could the president just…knock down the entire White House? Just raze the whole thing to the ground?
Incidentally, the guy who wrote the original version of "Dazed and Confused" that Zeppelin ripped off is the same guy who wrote "Be All That You Can Be" for the Army.
There used to be an entire industry of people who made songs out of whole cloth for TV ads. Not anymore. You can only use these three songs in your ads and no others, regardless of product or service, it's The Law now:

The last pocket of resistance is Big Pharma, which still uses jingles, but we all know how they consider themselves Above The Law. They will be brought to heel someday soon, with the smooth sound of Hall and Oates accompanying descriptions of the most horrific side effects you've ever heard.
Why only those three? I don't know, I'm not a moron and I don't do coke.

Plaintiff's exhibit 304A, Aimée v. Gumby (1979) - surveillance photo alleged by Gumby's third wife Anouk Aimée to be Gumby and Prickle visiting the Tahitian Den massage parlor, 405 W. 42nd St, New York, October 1977
It took Lehrer being knocked out for three months by a heart attack and bypass surgery and watching the show closely each night, plus a razor thin margin vote by the PBS stations to keep the program on the network, to get them to shape the broadcast into more or less what it is now.
PBS News posted the first night of the hour show. MacNeil and Lehrer would tell you it simply did not work - the show had no structure to it, you had to pay attention to the whole hour. The Times rightfully called out the segment with local newspaper editors as irrelevant: youtu.be/4ekIw9k7n6Y?...

The Nixon Foundation’s primary purpose was always to re-litigate Watergate & edify Richard Nixon. He founded the Nixon Center (now Center for the National Interest) to advance his foreign policy goals. But after 1994 (ahem) the Foundation couldn’t keep its hands off CNI - bsky.app/profile/jenn...
News: Trump will receive the "Architect of Peace" award today from the Nixon Foundation. Among those who will be at White House to present it are Richard Nixon's daughter Tricia Nixon Cox, ex national security advisor Robert O'Brien, Jim Byron, the acting archivist of the US, sources tell CBS News
This is stated quite a bit more elegantly than I put it yesterday:
@amnanawaz.bsky.social is the best broadcast journalist there is right now about following up on some nonsense that GOP leaders try to say without anyone noticing, and she DOES NOT get her just due for doing that and she absolutely should.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune on Thursday said that he may support a future vote on health care subsidies in exchange for Democratic votes to reopen the federal government.

taking an actual wrecking ball to the White House is a little on the nose as far as metaphors go
Scoop: Trump has started demolishing the White House's East Wing facade to build his ballroom. The president had claimed construction of the $250 million building wouldn’t ‘interfere’ with the existing White House structure. /W @ddiamond.bsky.social wapo.st/4hqBNiU

One of my favorites from the archive is a Very Serious discussion about a newfangled product called Pringles, including interviews with local potato chip makers frothing at the mouth with rage and Lehrer absolutely serving in long hair and aviators: share.google/h9Zhzmq4ev2v...
The current version of the program is excellent, better than even in MacNeil and Lehrer's day. I consider @amnanawaz.bsky.social the best anchor on TV - intelligent, empathetic, but will happily (and civilly) gut an interviewee who tries to get one over on her like a freshly caught trout.
Robin MacNeil started the program on an invite from WNET (Channel 13), New York following his success w/Jim Lehrer in covering the Senate Watergate Hearings. I found his interviews with the TV Academy last year and fell in love; he presents as a wickedly funny raconteur: share.google/JGtDUDhKpSB7...

Today marks the 50th birthday of one of the last sources on American TV for real news: the PBS NewsHour. It is also the only news broadcast with a complete, searchable archive open to the public online, a real treasure trove:

Honestly a more embarrassing thing for the head of a major news organization to say than “let’s do the fucking news.”

the NYT decides on its narratives and really, really has a hard time adjusting coverage to reality. it was the biggest pusher of 'resistance is dead', reflecting the general desire among the US establishment for Trump to be a punitive force against their critics. #nokings doesn't fit its story
Those with sharp eyes might detect a subtle difference in NYT play last month of an event in one city, w 100,000+ attendees, versus play this morning of some 2500+ events w many millions of attendees, in all 50 states.

See if you can spot it! /s

Then you can find today's story on p A23
