The further back you go, the people are less people and more ghosts, just smudges of smoke in the corners. This is what it's like to be haunted, you think. This is what it's like: everyone you loved a long time ago, gathered in your childhood basement forever.

We always joke that my daughter can dance because Black Messiah was constantly playing in our place when I was pregnant with her. D’Angelo was the first concert we saw after she was born, and it was an ecstatic, joyful experience. The music world is truly darker today :(
