a shot of the beach kiss between ed and stede drawn by me on procreate. it’s purpley, kind of like they’re floating in the middle of the galaxy. ed and stede are a darker purple, but you can still see the line art. there are stars wrapping around them and kind of a white… i forget the word. starburst? where they meet. i chose this design for them bc sometimes they do be acting like they’re the only ones in the universe. also HUGE, MASSIVE thank you to gin for all your help on this frame as i learned to navigate procreate. ilu another shot of the beach kiss with ed and stede drawn on procreate, this one is a closer shot of them and they are on a black background. they are drawn in rainbow pen. there are stars in the sky and mountains in the background. i added them because i’m from british columbia originally and i thought wouldn’t it be neat if my boys got to go there too. anyway.

Ed's hand with the spider tattoo visible is holding Stede's face, both their eyes are closed, and Ed's nose is squishing into Stede's cheek while they kiss. Stede has a very blissful, peaceful expression on his face and Ed's is more intensely emotional. There's a black border around the image and the background is blank except for some little gesture lines left over from the block carving process that I decided to keep in.

Y'all I am so grateful to be a part of this and so proud that I did two frames! Before this I hadn't painted in 15 years thanks to art school burnout and I had so! Much! Fun!!! It sounds like an exaggeration but this gave me my joy back 😭😭😭

"I thought we could try that new hockey show everyone is talking about!" Oh fuck. Ed, who had just taken another bite, immediately choked on it and began to cough. "Good lord, Ed!" Stede exclaimed, clapping him on the back and handing him his glass of water from the coffee table. "Are you all right?" No. No, I am not. Ed managed to clear his airways, gulping some water to buy himself some time as much as anything else. "Yeah, I'm fine. You mean Heated Rivalry?" Might as well be sure. Maybe Stede picked up an entirely out-of-character interest in the actual sport, with all its cross-checking and fights on the ice and bloodied-up faces; who knows. "Yes!" Stede beamed. "You've heard of it?" Oh, l've heard of it. I've heard all about it. "Yeah, I have." Ed paused; maybe better not to say too much just yet. "What have you heard about it?"

“How do you think he does it?” Stede leaned in to murmur in his ear. Ed blinked alert to see Stede gesturing at Pete, a man far closer to their age than Lucius’ but nonetheless keeping up with his younger boyfriend. Ed watched as they clung to each other, hands groping, hips swaying to the beat of whatever music caught their ears. He flashed on a faint memory of Stede’s probing arms and shook it off. “Drugs, probably,” he said, smirking. “Is it—no. You think? Really?” Stede looked perplexed. It was fucking adorable. “Pete? Are you on drugs?” Ed barked out a laugh. “Stede!” he shouted, but it was too late. “High on life!” Pete said, pumping his fist in the air as Lucius gave him another sloppy kiss. “And molly,” Lucius said. “Why, you want some?” “Lucius! Absolutely not!” Stede’s nose crinkled in disgust. Far cuter than that Nancy fucking Reagan Just Say No attitude ought ever be, Ed thought. Lucius shrugged. “Suit yourself.”

Sometimes I feel like I didn't do much this year because I only published one thing. BUT it was the longest and most ambitious thing I've written and my first writing collab (VERY BRAVE of me). Meeting folks in person who worked with me/cheered me on is one of my best memories of the year!

here’s a sweet bit of chapter 17 of jamestown ferry for wip wednesday.
His mother’s smile is so sweet and sympathetic. She’s beautiful, he thinks, and not (entirely) because they look so much alike. “I think you deserve that,” she says, just like a mother. “You don’t think I’m going to hell either way?” he asks, because he can’t really help it, and he’s not even sure if it’s a real question or a joke. He’s not sure it matters either way. She sets her spoon down and sits up straighter, and while he’s quite a bit taller than her, he really does feel like a kid again as she fixes him with a firm look. “Edward Teach, a God who couldn’t love you no matter who you love is not a God I’d like to know,” she says, which hits him like a punch to the gut in the best possible way. “You’re my son; I love you, and all that matters to me in this world is that you’re happy. Okay?” Okay? Okay? Fuck, his eyes are wet and there’s not even anything he can blame but emotions, because his mother knows damn well he hasn’t got a cedar allergy or anything. He just nods– quick, little jerks of his head– and spoons some stew into his mouth so he won’t have to say anything, and she smiles fondly, and the stew’s not even that hot anymore, but damn if Ed doesn’t feel warm all over.
