The USDA sent an email to grocery stores telling them they are prohibited from offering special discounts to customers affected by the SNAP funding lapse.
I'm aware of at least 2 stores that had offered struggling customers a discount, then withdrew it after receiving this email

I renovated the Lincoln Bathroom in the White House. It was renovated in the 1940s in an art deco green tile style, which was totally inappropriate for the Lincoln Era. I did it in black and white polished Statuary marble. This was very appropriate for the time of Abraham Lincoln and, in fact, could be the marble that was originally there!

I realized now that its possible that "blue collar" in US cultural imagination is similar to things in foreign media where characters wear "traditionalist" clothing that amalgamates together different periods of time into a homogeneous aesthetic. Its now a "traditional costume" in America like
