New essay: REJECT TRANS DOOM-POSTING.

It's about grief, loss, institutional failures, and the horror of the current moment.

It's also a love letter to trans community, and the things we do with and for one another.

Staff from UCU at Coventry University have passed a vote of no confidence in their Vice Chancellor, who has presided over a regime of gross mismanagement, and is now firing staff and rehiring them through subsidiary companies.

It's important to emphasise this isn't a ruling, but an indicator of the prejudices of a judge deciding on the judicial review. However, it's a reminder of the difficulties of trying NOT to break the law whilst opposing the draconian nature of the ban. Here's our advice netpol.org/2025/06/26/p...
BREAKING: Judge in judicial review over proscription of Palestine Action claims the statement "Palestine Action are not terrorists" would be deemed support for the group.

The focus on the civil rights movement in the US - my son did it at school, in massive detail - occludes the civil rights story here in the UK. That British heroes are not known while everyone can (rightly) name Rosa Parks is very depressing. #blackhistory #Britishhistory
Prepping for teaching, and I'm appalled to discover how *little* detailed research exists on the Bristol Bus Boycott.

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, but it's no wonder there is so little awareness of the history of Black civil rights activism in the UK. Just a vicious cycle of ignorance.

I wrote this piece about Trudi Warner and why juries are an important part of our constitution in April last year. I think particularly worth reading today.

Judge rules that the solicitor general ‘mischaracterised’ the evidence when he charged Warner with contempt of court for holding up a placard.

"Dogs don't bark at parked cars" is an all-time great line
"My mentor always tells me, 'Kim, dogs don’t bark at parked cars." They’re coming after critical race theory, 1619, intersectionality because these ideas mobilized people. They gave them the language to actually articulate what they were seeing with their own eyes," says Kimberlé Crenshaw.

It is genuinely insane to see a judge describe Graham Linehan as a “generally credible witness” in a trial where he claimed Sophia Brooks has been engaged in “trans activism” since 2013 (when she would’ve been 6 years old), then, when challenged, claimed her drivers license lied about her age.

Is the encore dead?

I've seen five bands headline to audiences of 30 to 2500 over the past three weeks, none of which played an encore. One band, Ratboys insisted they had no intention of "playing peek-a-boo" with the audience. Wet Leg just left the stage to a wave of noise.

Additionally, hippos - despite being massive - have almost no fat on them. All of that impressive bulk is muscle.

2% body fat. Compare that to Elephants, which are around 8-10%, or rhinos, which are 10-20%.

The average human is around 20-40%, for reference.

They're *all* muscle.

Nothing about us, without us.

And with things like the puberty blocker trial, that doesn't simply mean involving trans adults - it means listening to young people and being led by their experience.
The trans community’s trust in the NHS’ new puberty blocker trial is low and I can’t help but wonder whether they could have prevented that by involving ANY trans people in its design or operation, and maybe not involving several people who have attended conferences of anti-LGBTQ hate groups
