To put a finer point on this whole thing: "Two people with direct knowledge of the operation" — presumably uniformed military leaders — are accusing the U.S. Secretary of Defense of personally ordering specific war crimes. That's a historic accusation.

one insidious thing about gen AI is it's not just causing us to mistrust dodgy images, it's also making us mistrust images that look perfectly normal. this is gaslighting in a very literal sense bc the technology is undermining the trust we have in our own ability to perceive reality!

Occupation forces claimed that the operation aims to combat “terrorism” and the newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth said it will last for several days. The governor of Tubas, Ahmad al-Asaad, described it as a dangerous escalation targeting the city and surrounding towns. ▪️Dr. Mustafa Barghouti said: “What terrorism are they talking about? The only terrorism present in the West Bank today is the terrorism of Israeli settler gangs who wreak havoc across the West Bank. If Israel wants to combat terrorism, it should combat the terrorism of the settlers first, and the terrorism of its army that abuses Palestinians everywhere. No, this claim is untrue and unrelated to reality. This matter is not even a security issue. Even the claim that the operation is being conducted for security reasons is false. There are no real security threats to them. And by the way, the concept of ‘security’ is apparently a concept only for Jews and Israelis; for Palestinians, there is no security—at least in the Israeli mindset. The more important issue is that what is happening is extremely dangerous. Israel is carrying out a military operation with three brigades against a people living under occupation. There is no entity in the world that occupies a people and then wages war against them while they are under occupation. But, this is exactly what Israeli forces are doing now in the northern West Bank. The target is not only Tubas city but the entire Tubas region, including Tammoun, Aqaba, al-Fara’a camp, al-Yamoun, and Tayaseer—many areas. The operation involves violating people, storming homes, expelling residents, occupying those homes, and abusing everything inside. There have been widespread arrests—so far the number of detainees has reached 75 and may increase. Today a video was released showing the Israeli army beating and abusing an elderly man. A camera captured it. This is one example among many of the ongoing abuses against residents in the area. All of this has one meaning: there is an attempt to pressure and suffocate the people in a strategically crucial region close to the Jordan Valley, where Israel is attempting to carry out full ethnic cleansing, and also close to Jenin. Israel is trying to repeat in this area what it carried out in the camps of Jenin, Tulkarm, and Nur Shams, whose residents—around 60,000 people—were displaced and are still not allowed to return to their homes, even though they were originally among those whom Israel forced to leave their homeland in 1948. This is extremely dangerous. And this is not only in the north—today the Israeli army also carried out raids in Abu Falah, Sinjil, Kafr Malik, al-Mughayyir, and areas in Bethlehem.” ⸻ 🎥 Translation of Arabic in video report from AJ Mubasher Resident 1: “They searched all the houses and left nothing. It’s unbelievable. The woman and her children had to flee their home; they can’t stay in the house. They forced them out of their homes.
