absolutely delighted to see this piece on my Bunny Lang Selected Poems in the @newyorker.com, & perhaps even more delighted with the illustration by Lauren Tamaki of Lang in Frank O’Hara’s grimy tub, as described by Joe LeSueur 🛀
V. R. Lang, a Forgotten Queen Bee of Modern Poetry
A débutante, a burlesque dancer, and a poet, the shape-shifting Lang—who died at thirty-two—wrote some of the most aching, entrancing poetry of the twentieth century.

I’m extremely skeptical about the power of writing to one’s MP, but it is true that constituent numbers can be leverage, so to that end I’ve written to everyone I can think of who might have influence on this; below is a template for you to do the same

Success! We delivered our joint letter demanding full scrutiny, meaningful debate & a free vote for MPs on the new Code of Practice.

Many MPs we’ve spoken to are now ready to help.

❗️BUT they’ve advised that they need you—as constituents—to keep writing in❗️

LGBTQ+ groups have called on the UK government to table a debate regarding the updates to the Equality and Human Rights Commission’s (EHRC) single-sex code of practice.

More than 80 organisations and groups signed a joint letter calling on equalities minister Bridget Phillipson to stage a “meaningful debate” once the revamped guidance had been published.

The UK’s equality watchdog proposed updates to its Code of Practice on Services, Public Functions and Associations, in April, shortly after the Supreme Court ruled on the definitions of “woman” and “sex” in the 2010 Equality Act.

The EHRC – the body which is meant to protect our human rights – is proposing guidance which would turn the Equality Act into a bathroom ban. If this becomes law, it would force trans people out of public life.

And terrifyingly - this is all happening behind closed doors 🧵
Don't let them take away our rights behind closed doors

The EHRC's proposed Code of Practice would devastate trans+ lives and put everybody at risk.

This trans bathroom ban is set to become law with no debate, no scrutiny and no vote in Parliament.

We have to act now.

The world's most famous medical NGO concludes Israel is committing genocide.

It joins a consensus of genocide scholars, including in Israel, and NGOs like Amnesty International.

The death toll of Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza is now estimated at 100,000

The list is 1,227 pages long.

The first 11 pages are names of babies dead before the age of 6 months.

The first 381 pages are all children.

archive.is/2025.06.28-0...
On Monday of this week, Hamas' Health Ministry in the Gaza Strip published an updated list of those killed in the war, a 1,227-page chart, arranged from youngest to oldest. The Arabic-language document includes the deceased person's full name, the names of the father and grandfather, date of birth and ID number.
Unlike previous lists, this compilation notes the precise age of children who were under the age of one year when they were killed. Mahmoud al-Maranakh and seven more children died on the same day they were born. Four more children were killed on the day after they entered the world, five others lived to the age of two days. Not until page 11, following 486 names, does the name appear of the first child who was more than six months old when he was killed.

The UK Data (Use and Access) Bill is currently being debated in Parliament and anti-trans campaigners are trying to amend the Bill so it requires public authorities to collect data about 'biological sex' (see below).

🚨 THIS NEEDS TO BE OPPOSED 🚨

publications.parliament.uk/pa/bills/cbi...
The amendment reads:

To move the following Clause—

“Directions to public authorities on recording of sex data (1) The Secretary of State must, within three months of the passage of this Act, issue regulations relating to the code of practice set out in section 49 of this Act which require public authorities to—

(a) collect, process and retain sex data only where it is lawful to do so in accordance with data protection legislation;

(b) request and record sex data accurately, in every circumstance where sex data is collected, in accordance with following category terms and definitions—

(i) ”Sex” meaning male or female only based on “sex at birth”, “natal sex” or “biological sex” (these terms carrying the same meaning and capable of being used interchangeably); and, (ii) in addition, where it is lawful to do so in accordance with data protection legislation and the Gender Recognition Act 2004, “Acquired Gender” meaning male or female only, as recorded on a gender recognition certificate issued in accordance with the Gender Recognition Act 2004.

Time is of the essence and we need to fight the EHRC interim guidance before it becomes statutory and Parliament make it law.

Don’t just shout about it, write to them. Also tell the media, if you can get them to care. I’ve posted this on Instagram.

Speak to your unions and staff networks at work
hello venues, LGBTQ+ clubs and organisations, workplaces and pals

Social posts and posters are nice, but we need you to write to the EHRC and tell them their new guidance (see next slides) doesn't work for you

They can't tell people how to run a gay or lesbian club. And they can't make you be toilet cops. Please tell them it doesn't work for you. A quick email or phone call will help a lot. From the EHRC interim guidance:

In workplaces and services that are open to the public:
• trans women (biological men) should not be permitted to use the women's facilities and trans men (biological women) should not be permitted to use the men's facilities, as this will mean that they are no longer single-sex facilities and must be open to all users of the opposite sex
• in some circumstances the law also allows trans women (biological men) not to be permitted to use the men's facilities, and trans men (biological woman) not to be permitted to use the women's facilities

From Phoenix: If we pass too well, we aren't allowed in either gendered toilet or changing room. It's not fair to segregate us, never mind the impact on disabled people if abled trans people use their facilities From the EHRC interim guidance:

Membership of an association of 25 or more people can be limited to men only or women only and can be limited to people who each have two protected characteristics. It can be, for example, for gay men only or lesbian women only. A women-only or lesbian-only association should not admit trans women (biological men), and a men-only or gay men-only association should not admit trans men (biological women).

From Phoenix:
If you run a gay or lesbian club, night, bar, sauna, reading group, walking group etc - the EHRC say you have to exclude trans people or include cishets. Freedom of association is under threat Time is of the essence. They're going to make this guidance statutory and Parliament will make that law soon. We will try to help with template letters etc, but your initial objections should be logged NOW.

We love you, you need to speak up.
