At the top of the page is a black and white photo of two dogs. They're sitting at the top of some outdoor stairs, looking down at a tropical garden. At the bottom is another black and white picture of one of those dogs- she's a black Lab mix, sitting prettily on a bench.

A musician, Oriana Korol, was peacefully playing clarinet with her protest band outside ICE facilities in Portland, OR.

When the band started playing “Ghostbusters,” ICE thugs suddenly poured outside, slammed her into the mud, arrested her and took her to a jail 9 miles away in Vancouver, WA.

‘Taking us citizens out of state to detain them without charge is a new action from the Feds and should be opposed,’ her band said

a wacky 🤪 thing my body seems to be up to: whenever I have a cold, flu, or other infection, my foot and hand joints begin to swell, heat up, itch, hurt, generally make an extra nuisance of themselves.

I think what's bothering me about all these statements I'm seeing from politicians that are variations of "Israeli hostages and Palestinians are returning to their homes, yay" is that Israelis are returning to their homes and Palestinians are returning to uninhabitable post apocalyptic rubble.

Three-time World Fantasy Award Winner Andy Duncan says THE OTHER SHORE is “A landmark first collection from an extraordinary writer. Like an autoharpist from the hills, Campbell makes a high lonesome sound all her own.”

If you would like a book that is one part Annihilation, and one part Scooby Gang, seasoned with a dash of parasitic wasp behaviors, well this is it ⬇️

I should probably remind people that I had a novel called GIRL IN THE CREEK come out about a month and a half ago. It got a star in the Library Journal! And look at this awesome blurb from @keithrosson.bsky.social:
Against a green background and just to the left of the cover for GIRL IN THE CREEK, a blurb: Dazzling. GIRL IN THE CREEK is unflinching eco-horror, steeped in the pitch-perfect setting of the rainswept Pacific Northwest. I devoured it even though it gutted me, and it solidifies that Wagner is an absolutely electrifying writer.

aaaaaaaaaaa I think about that one ALL THE TIME. the play of genres, the seething, genteel horror of it all.

If it is any consolation, this was the skeet that got it off my wishlist and into my grubby little hands

Anyway, what have I learned by looking over the list of books I've read the last few months? Well,
Actor Riz Ahmed pops a squat by the rear bumper of a Nissan Ultima. He's pointing vaguely towards the license plate, which reads I'M SAD. His expression is one of resigned, squinting amusement.

That's just math!! The latte is the little clear perspex lid that you flip open when the maybe it's time to write alarm sounds. The croissant is the big red button UNDER the lid that you must push to initiate.

And on a sentence level, Notes from a Regicide was unbeatable.

And I gotta shout one I read in January: The Siege of Burning Grass by Premee Mohamed, which is MAYBE my favorite of hers, if I'm forced to choose. Having just finished House of Open Wounds, those reflect on each other so well.

I hadn't read any solo Pratchett before, and it wasn't my usual sort of thing, but I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it.

I read much slower these days than I used to, tho still a decent churn as most would reckon it. I like the pace better, though. Sentence level is where I live, at heart.

All ones I've loved recently:
- Monstrous Regiment by Terry Pratchett
- Notes from a Regicide by Isaac Fellman
- House of Open Wounds by Adrian Tchaikovsky
- The Iron Children by Rebecca Fraimow
And an adjacent bit of nonfiction:
- My War Gone By, I Miss It So by Anthony Loyd

Only realizing now, as I jot down the latest one in my reading log notebook, that I've been on a bit of a run of reading war novels. Well, "Notes from a Regicide" is half a revolution novel, and less about the revolutionary parts of the revolution, but still feels a bit of a family with the rest.
