They definitely should have planned their shit better. I should probably revisit to be sure, but as of now, Ben/Kylo is my least favorite character in those. Give me more stories about the other characters any day that ends in Y.

I have left Substack. It is a scary move financially, and I urge you to consider signing up now for my newsletters.

The Ghost Era is off to a good start. Check out some of these pieces from the last week. There's this morning's newsletter, for example...

Because the networks are rightwing and wanted rightwing pro corporate consolidation candidates to win. They are fascists so of course they are downplaying or openly lying about anti fascist mass protests.
The networks took the much smaller Tea Party movement so seriously they broadcast a Tea Party rebuttal to Obama’s 2011 SOTU on top of the normal GOP one.
Reminder: We spent YEARS reading thousands and thousands of articles on the Tea Party and how it was a true expression of the American people's will, and it never mounted anything nearly as big as Saturday's No Kings rallies. [1/3]

Not only that. they NEED your attention. Deprive them of it and keep it moving.
i know the desire to fight with these sick freaks is strong but resist the urge and just block. it’s better for your brain.
Valid. I do need to find more ones by queer men/nonbinary people. KJ Charles is my gold standard for a white, presumably cishet person who is Doing It Right, as far as I can tell, and I’ve liked Talia Hibbert’s M/M stuff as well. But yeah, come to think, I have consumed some questionable stuff.
I only read M/M authors that have been recommended or that I follow/trust online for this reason. Those streets are no joke.

How about those of us that understand its limitations, find it useless for many tasks, know that for others we'll need to upload proprietary info and also hate the fact that it's destroying the environment while also fucking over real artists and copyright owners? Which category is that, Justin?
There are basically only two positions in the debate about AI.
1. I’ve barely invested any time in learning how to use it effectively. AI sucks.
2. I’ve invested in learning how to use this tool. Holy cow, it’s transformational.

Position #1 has lower barriers to entry.

In about three years the entire university pivot to AI curricula and schools and programs is going to be so deeply embarrassing. We will all pretend it never happened and I will be standing there, looking at people with a mirror in my eyes. This is all so embarrassing.

What's really amazing about this to me, in library and information science, is that we fall for this every. single. time.

1) Know your values, frame the debate

2) Repetition is key to persuasion

3) Communication, public speaking, and on-camera performance are skills you need to train at to be good at bsky.app/profile/theb...

A similar thing happened to me about 25 years ago, when I was a preteen. It was a nightmare.

Now, thanks to AI, so many young girls all over the world will have to live that same nightmare.
it's 30 years later and this still happens.

I have blocked this person, but I keep seeing people say things like this, and I’m begging people to understand two things.

(1) Just because peaceful protest may not be sufficient to win this moment does not mean that it is not necessary.

It is.

Please read this to understand how dire the situation is in Nunavut: www.aptnnews.ca/featured/foo...

I made print copies of my book a fundraiser to raise awareness of food sovereignty/security issues in the North, but the PDF is free if you want to download + donate directly to QCFC + other orgs.
True! That’s ringing a bell. The idea also highlights the genius of books like Parable of the Sower, that still feel prescient for a while after publication.
Somewhat similarly, I remember enjoying Snow Crash around maybe 2005 even though it was maybe a bit dated, but I remember very little and think it might not hold up now.
I have to say this doesn’t surprise me. As a white USian studying abroad, I found Australians to be personally kind. However, I was dismayed to learn that their genocide of indigenous Australians almost exactly mirrored ours of indigenous USians, so it follows that the racism would, too.

every big AI pitch is like “what if we took away your means of survival and devalued all your skills to make stonks go up temporarily? You’d like that wouldn’t you?”
Yeah, it reminds me of cooking in that the actual assembly (maybe, sometimes) doesn’t take as long as the planning/preparation process. Eg, recipes that are like “dinner in 30 minutes”… given your vegetables are already chopped.
This is my thought as well. 13 years in Hollywood isn’t that much of a gap, but I just want someone his age or older.

Please remember that the disgust people have over Christopher Columbus is not based on some modern, 21st century “woke” ideology, but rather on contemporaneous accounts of atrocities that make many modern genocides appear quaint in comparison.

Below, are the accounts of Bartlomé de las Casas.

Seriously, even if you get the flu shot and the COVID booster, and RSV, and pneumonia, PLEASE mask in public spaces. For your sake and for everyone else's sake.
if you are rightfully concerned if not frightened about the continued dissolution of U.S. healthcare infrastructure, would you take an action every day to resist it?
It also feels indulgent, like you shouldn’t be eating but it tastes so good. You can feel the deep care that the cast and creators have for the material. They cared enough to change the stuff that doesn’t hold up nowadays and flesh out characters who were weaker in the books.
