Let me clarify, because those men are surrounded by men who believe they are moral yet they are not. There is no respect for life. There is no respect for creation (art). No respect for internal peace.

Only hatred and an unearned sense of superiority. Broken men despising those who are whole.

It's why they are repeating the sins of their fathers now. And because of a desire for money, no one around them is intervening. Is willing to be honest with them. They need to go talk to older white men (because those are the only people they respect) who do not want their money. Men with morals.

I made a snarky remark about how Thiel should go talk to Moore about Watchmen. He needs to go talk to Moore period. And many of his peers do as well. Because though they had fathers in the home, they clearly had piss-poor male role models. That lack of a moral foundation is why they are crumbling.

(I'm headed somewhere with this.) It was always odd to me when antiblack bigots would make cracks about fathers not being in the home when I not only had my father, but uncles and a grandfather too.

When my father was alive, I used to say that I wish I could lend him out to men who didn't have good role models. I always felt a little guilty that as a girl I had this amazing male figure in my life.

Thiel's reading: “Nothing lasts forever.”

Actual line: “‘In the end’? Nothing ends, Adrian. Nothing ever ends.”

@tadethompson.bsky.social “Literally THE OPPOSITE of what Dr Manhattan said. Also, Moore didn't see this as an ideal solution. Moore literally negates the plan in the last panel

Partial screenshot from screenshot in the original post:

He describes the plot of Watchmen, a 1986 graphic novel involving superheroes grappling with moral questions about humanity against the backdrop of impending nuclear war:

“The antihero Ozymandias, the anticrhist-type figure, is sort of an early-modern person. He believes this will be a timeless and eternal solution - eternal world peace. Moore is sort of a late-modern. In early modernity, you have ideal solutions, ‘perfect’ solutions to calculus. In late modernity, things are sort of probabilistic. And at some point, he asks Dr Manhattan whether the world government is going to last. And he says that ‘nothing lasts forever.’ So you embrace the antichrist and it still doesn’t work.

Thiel later finds biblical meaning in the manga One Piece, discussing how he believes is represents a future where an antichrist-like one-world…”
Panel from Watchmen. Foreground, Ozymandias' hand reaches toward Dr Manhattan as the Doctor starts to fade away.

Dr Manhattan: "In the end"?

Dr Manhattan: Nothing ends, Adrian. Nothing ever ends. The full page from Watchmen. I'm not typing the whole thing. Watch the cartoon or movie or read the GN.

Okay, but Stevie Wonder gets a whole month.

Every couple of weeks someone great dies and we all make a big thing about how great they are (this week's is Diane Keaton) and it's always lovely because everyone is talking about fun things a cool person did. But I wish we could nominate one person a week we did that for *without* them dying.

Totally not worrying that the world's richest and most powerful people are raging lunatics
Dennis Hopper's character in Apocalypse Now delivers an insane rant to Charlie Sheen, who is locked in a bamboo cage.

(Yes, I am aware that Moore doesn't like to talk about Watchmen, but he'd probably do it if Thiel donated an obscene amount of money to charity.)
cheryllynneaton.bsky.social
Is Thiel aware that he could just go and have a conversation with Moore and Oda instead of surrounding himself with yes-men who are never going tell him that he is bat**** crazy and his Antichrist obsession is weird?

thiel, man, what the fuck are you talking about

He describes the plot of Watchmen, a 1986 graphic novel involving superheroes grappling with moral questions about humanity against the backdrop of impending nuclear war:

The antihero Ozymandias, the antichrist-type figure, is sort of an early-modern person. He believes this will be a timeless and eternal solution – eternal world peace.

Thiel later finds biblical meaning in the manga One Piece, discussing how he believes it represents a future where an antichrist-like one-world government has repressed science. He believes that the hero, Monkey D Luffy, represents a Christlike figure.

In One Piece, you are set in a fantasy world, again sort of an alternate earth, but it’s 800 years into the reign of this one-world state. Which, as the story unfolds, gradually gets darker and darker. You sort of realize, in my interpretation, who runs the world and it’s something like the antichrist. There’s Luffy, a pirate who wears a red straw hat, sort of like Christ’s crown of thorns. And then towards the end of the story, transforms into a figure who resembles Christ in Revelation.

Thiel, along with a researcher and writer at Thiel Capital, explored these ideas at greater length in an essay for the religious journal First Things earlier this month.

ChatGPT prompts and replies aren't training wheels for humanity. Your skills and genuine personality will atrophy using them.
cheryllynneaton.bsky.social
When I clicked over, I thought it was going to be accounts of men using ChatGPT to game women into one-night-stands, but it's so much worse. It's not laziness. People actually have no idea how to maintain a romantic relationship.

Attacks on the federal workforce are also attacks on Black workers, who are overrepresented in the public sector.

Black unemployment is 7.5%. I'm reminded of Coates' observation that Black Americans regularly experience conditions that would be considered a crisis if whites faced them.

Ugh, he would have been SO GOOD! The trick is that you gotta cast at least one real deal actor in franchise silliness to get it over. James Earl Jones. Alec Guinness. Alfred Molina. Raul Julia. Michael Caine.
cheryllynneaton.bsky.social
Oh, I was joking around. There's an old American false belief that movies don't sell to white audiences when black actors are cast.
