Omg, this detail from CNN about the ICE hiring snafu is wild. This seems like an HR 101 level thing to get right.

They turned a hiring bonus into something much closer to an application bonus.

Seems like a great way to burn a ton of cash. Also? Here’s some waste for sure!

The signing bonus also prompted discussions internally because it’s not contingent on a key part of the hiring process, which is passing the academy, another source said. Even candidates who don’t pass the academy and are slotted for administrative jobs are still pocketing thousands of dollars.

Spicy auto-correct likes to use a lot of weird punctuation because it was trained on stolen work, including my own, and I use punctuation like I'm a British children's author from 1880. I like - and ; so much that I tracked them down as pony beads, so I could use them in bead bracelets.

With full pay and benefits.

The senate has been working, so this is not about the shutdown.

It is about avoiding a vote to release the Epstein files.

When people in the movement say "We would do anything to help save babies" there is a giant asterisk, and in fine print at the bottom it says "...so long as it is within the right-wing political vision for America."

They will not save babies if it means moving one inch away from capitalism.

But it's clear to me (and had been since my college days) that although there are people with genuine pro-life beliefs who will give real support to the vulnerable, the Pro-Life Movement™ is focused on power, and that power is gained by being aligned with the Republicans ideologically & politically.

And there are other "positive" pro-life policy which could be pursued:
- A solution to natal care pricing (*cough* M4A *Cough*)
- An expanded Child Tax Credit, which was wildly successful.
- Anything which helps communicate that the community supports the new parents and baby.

Having grown up in the Pro-Life Movement pre-Trump, it was puzzling to me that the entirety of the focus of the movement was on negative legislation:

Overturn Roe.
Criminalize abortion.

...when I thought it would be far easier to find common ground on positive pro-life policy, like Baby Boxes.
