Didn't have anything on my Bio Description when I was on Twitter, but I guess I may as well have one now.

Studied music, dabbled in history, love film. He/Him, in case the kilt wasn't a giveaway.

Question:
If I have like $6.50 in the app from early this year, (and more a gift card I found) is it better to leave that money parked, waiting for a resolution to the strike?

Or is there a way to support workers with that while making Starbucks pay out the money?

Oh FFS. If they're just going to create AI slop, why should we bother with the middleman? AI slop is inescapable. I'm not sure why anyone would willingly spend money to tie their brand to this radioactive waste.

I think theforce, net and brickfilms, com were to me what ao3 and similar were to writers of my age.

On the other hand, what makes Fan Films enjoyable to watch (if you can get past all the amateurisms) is that you can clearly see the labour of love on screen. Bad acting, but they're having a good time doing it. They really try hard.

Also, no-one is blowing a 9 figure budget on the true fanfilms

Part of the reason I really disliked Rogue One is that it was so clearly a fan film, but it was actively worse than a lot of fan films I watched growing up.

With the exception of the space battle at the end—wheee, X-Wings!

70s mustache guy is my fave character from that film. He was having fun.

Mando I watched S1 and part of S2. Lots of filler, but good stuff every now and then. A worthy successor to the Ewok Adventure films.

I'm an outlier on Rogue One. I hated it.

It didn't feel like a film to me, it felt like watching someone's playthrough of a video game. Character development was just...MIA. Jyn Urso is a joke of a character. If she said "Hope" one more time, I thought I was gonna stab someone.

What makes the Prequel Trilogy and Sequel Trilogy stand out are the incredible soundtrack work by John Williams. That is a place they consistently beat the no budget fan films.

Each of these films maintains a sense of "Oooh, this feels Star Wars-y, this is gon' be good" for no more than 10% of its runtime, followed by a growing sense of disappointment.

Occasionally the good bits are not at the beginning, just to shake things up.

Oh yes. I would also include the Prequels as runaway budget fan films, though.

It has the stylistic hallmarks:
- Obsessed with VFX
- Bad acting, worse writing
- Written and directed by someone who only vaguely understands text and subtext of the original trilogy.

I'm a huge fan of fan films, btw.

Not even a little satire...

That’s what I thought, but then the conversation became about how I was wrong.

I have a friend who is a Satanist of the “hail myself” variety, not a Flying Spaghetti Monster variety, which is what I assume you’re talking about. But maybe there’s some other hidden layers of nuance which is only available to smug insiders?

I’d far prefer that to a Title Alpha sort.

Every time I browse the library’s physical media selection, it’s like tapping into a madman’s stream of consciousness.

Dewey Decimal or bust. /s

My problem is that if you hard alpha sort, you end up with broken film series, adaptations of Dickens or Austen spread across the map (Christmas Carol vs Muppet Christmas Carol vs Scrooged) and mediums like animation scattered everywhere.

Good for search=bad for browse
