I'm with @therisingtithes.bsky.social on my shock at Wake Up Dead Man having the character of Lee Ross, a wash-up author, write a book that is 782,815 words long!

I so loved the film slipping in something that only writers will laugh at that I screenshot the scene.

French publishing house Harlequin decided to use AI translation instead of human translations.

All their freelance translators (some of whom had been working with Harlequin for +30y!!!) were told they would no longer receive work from Harlequin

This and nested.

I know that the old hands in Congress — many of whom are lawyers — are indoctrinated to judge nominees on the nominee’s merits, but it’s time to stop doing that. The nominee may look good in hearings, their skeletons may be reasonable, but being nominated is itself a taint.
Schiff voted to confirm yet another Trump nominee yesterday.
Trump's 18-minute-long rant from the White House was riddled with lies.

I'm breaking down the 18 worst lies — on everything from his Big Ugly Bill to his bogus inflation claims.

I like how this one kind of fades upward in detail. Kind of like it's still being drawn in!
There's a spot something like this in Dublin too. First chapter on Fade St.

After buying cherries today, I took my friend who was with me to do some birding at Jenkins Scrub. I only lasted 10 minutes before my back went (again) and I ended up sitting in the car in pain. Fortunately, this buff-rumped thornbill came to me 😀

When you evolve little grabby hands, you can't resist streeeeeetttching for things

Dryinidae wasps have little pinchy segments on their 1st leg pair, and it's amusing how that seemingly also changes their approach to navigation. I don't see other wasps doing this.

Companies have a lengthy history of dumping tainted products onto impoverished markets where people can't complain

I'm reminded of the HIV tainted blood supply for hemophilliacs; the US supply was cleaned up

The old tainted products were dumped on South American patients.
"At Walmart, recalled products were found in stores across 21 states.

In a letter to Target, the health regulator said officials in Arkansas found the company offering a $2 discount on the recalled formula from November 16 to November 22. Target had the formula in stores across 20 states."
US FDA sends warning letters to Walmart, Target for selling recalled baby formula
The FDA said four major retailers continued to sell baby formula linked to a nationwide outbreak of bacterial illness in infants even after the products were recalled.

I'm really beginning to think that GOP legislators are not just indifferent to but actively detached from median consumer reality.

Their attitude has always been "fuck 'em," but I don't think they grasp the degree to which they're immediately fucking people, and the impact it will have
I do not understand why no one is talking about how much money is going to suddenly be missing from the consumer economy in starting in January. This is one of my...Am I Crazy....moments. Money sunk into higher insurance payments will not be spent on consumer goods, and this will happen quickly.
