This is the time of year when I give a lot of budget talks around Chicago, and after the first flurry of them I can say: most people in the room are not usually radical abolitionists, but a non-zero number this year ARE people who know what tear gas smells like, and who maybe didn't know last year.

Sex. They want sex robots.
one of the things I really do not understand is why so much of the development of robots seems to be focused on making them bipedal like humans. Why? It's an insane allocation of resources when it would be much easier to give them three or four "legs" or come up with some new system

Several Chicago newsrooms spent two months collecting and analyzing evidence of ICE & Border Patrol's use of tear gas and pepper spray in Chicago.

They found that agents deployed chemical agents nearly 50 times. Most uses occurred after a judge ordered federal agents to restrict their use.

the funny thing is we put exactly 1 streetcar line back and it’s been an instant sensation with two expansions and continuing record-high ridership that has made all adjacent property into prime real estate, so consumer demand has spoken quite clearly as far as I’m concerned!
kansas city had the most street car lines in the nation and then the car boom resulted in those lines being piecemeal taken down by:

1) the push by major autos to expand streets for consumer cars
2) oil companies literally buying the lines and winding them down

details are elided but this is ~true

This is obviously a valid criticism, but I'm fucking tired of elected members of the Legislative Branch being mad about the Executive Branch doing things that the Legislative Branch authorized them to do! If you wanted that rule solidified in law YOU SHOULD HAVE MADE IT INTO A GODDAMN LAW.
Who does this benefit other than the major airline CEOs?

pretty clear a big part of the mainstream media-led backlash to #metoo is the number of people in media who take advantage of and abuse others.

they made it seem like it's about fairness, but they just didn't want to face any real consequences for their behavior.
So if Olivia is 32 now, broke up with Lizza last year, was together with him for a decade, and then was living with you for 4+ years before that, how old was she when you moved her out of her (presumably parents’) house in the suburbs to live with you?
Btw about this from Lizza's reply: Olivia and I lived together for 4+ years (4 b'days, 4 Xmases, 4 anniversaries). That's like $1250 of jewelry per celebration. And her apartment was a writing studio. And I made an f-ton then. What was I supposed to do? Get her a lot of Gift Certificates from Kmart?

it is almost as if accommodating and conceding to far right ideas legitimizes them and signals to voters that the far right is a legitimate choice for governance
The Danish Social Democrats are currently on course for their worst election result since at least the Second World War, despite their brand of far-right accommodationism being touted as a blueprint for other centre-left parties.
