Back in spring, I made final images of some of the buildings slated for demolition along the path of the Red Line Extension.

These were captured over a monthlong span when demolition permits were getting greenlit, wrecking crews finally dispatching after asbestos remediation and utility shutoffs.

Today for @wbez.org, @estheryjkang.bsky.social and @amyqin.bsky.social cover worsening conditions at Indian Trails Apartments - a large affordable complex at 121st Pl & Indiana whose current owners are engaging in classic distant slumlord practices, and are profiting handsomely from it.
What happened when Sausage King of Chicago bought a South Side housing complex?
The landlord has gotten millions in federal rent subsidies even as tenants complain about years of poor maintenance and deplorable conditions.

we dared to ask: what if groverhaus was a boat
There’s a wild story playing out on Great Lakes ship watching and coastal Facebook groups right now.

There’s a guy with a homemade house boat who’s attempting to traverse the lakes.

The boat is called Neverlanding and it set sail from Windsor, ON. It appears he has 1-2 50hp motors.

"In total, of the four sources MoneyWise listed to prove the existence of a new Chinese influencer law, none were primary sources . . . they were all news articles based on other news articles based on other news articles. Eventually, Yahoo Finance reposted the MoneyWise piece"
A new Chinese law regulating influencer speech has gotten applause from social media users and commentators who want similar policies in their own countries. But the truth is far from what's in the news and it's a sad reflection of our internet and media space.

Remember that flashy new Chinese law about fining influencers 100k RMB for spreading bad information? It doesn't exist, it was made up by a Facebook page called Enséñame de Ciencia and @wenhao.bsky.social has a great breakdown of why you *think* it does

the cook county sheriff's office is the second-largest agency, behind the massive cook county health system.

despite a sagging jail population and the end of the sheriff's electronic monitoring program, sheriff tom dart's budget is set to grow by $64 million, to roughly $815 million.

On April 1, the Cook County Sheriff’s Office began shuttering one of the country’s largest and most restrictive electronic monitoring programs.

Had a brainwave last night, took a couple hours off work today while the weather's still warm, and I CAN NOW DECLARE VICTORY ON THIS ACCURSED DIAGRAM. The hearse's idle speed and stability are back to normal, shifts are smoother, and cruise control is working again after months out of commission.

The Islamophobic attention heaped on Dearborn is really ugly and awful, magnetizing unhinged racists and far right influencers to visit and harass people. I worry about what happens if that same level of attention becomes directed at southwest suburbs of Chicago like Bridgeview or Orland Park.

Extremely jealous of this lineup - and I say that as somebody who interacts with and deeply respects a lot of the tech-adjacent folks who've been on Chicago's mayoral transition teams before. This is a super solid group of people, really great choices all around.
That's a pretty awesome group of people

Second worst thing about black metal (after the fascist infestation) is that many people in the scene are so hostile to genre fusion that we get 1,000 muddy albums from bands that sound exactly alike and then bands like Imperial Triumphant are frowned upon by TRVE KVLT types for doing cool new stuff
