Here too
That isn't how any of this works.
The sheer number of ads touting AI tells you how fucked and over-leveraged these companies are. You don't spend this much on marketing a thing you called "inevitable" unless you are seriously underwater and it ain't inevitable

$140bn on R&D is sooo much. Demonstrates how much cash is there for existing models and AI products, but why would you slow down R&D given how much continued improvement you see model to model?
HSBC forecasts that OpenAI is going to have nearly a half trillion in operating losses until 2030

Happy Thanksgiving from Mr Worldwide

Americans will post a tupperware of cottage cheese and grapes and say it's the star of the show. What show?? Survivor?
Forget the turkey and the fixings, the apple salad is the star of the Thanksgiving meal!

Apples, green grapes, walnuts, dates, marshmallows and a whole lotta mayo.

This house tax pretending is making me more insane than usual because as a renter I’ve had to move every 1-3 years just as standard because rents always rise. And no one cares. House owners get a tiny fraction of that precarity and suddenly it’s the worst thing that’s ever happened

It's such a bizarre framing. Labour MPs think taking 450k kids out of poverty is putting the country first! That's why they wanted it to happen! It's not because they personally benefit.
Headline on The World at One just now:

"Sir Keir Starmer has denied putting the Labour Party before the country by ending the two-child benefit cap".

Can we please go back to reporting the actual news, not someone's partisan take on it?

Je viens de découvrir une expression anglaise magnifique : « 'aving it large, oi oi! ». Elle signifie passer du temps avec ses amis d'une manière mélancolique. Quelle magie dans la langue anglaise !
A round of applause for the French is in order! 👏👏👏

Fundamentally every one of these posts about someone’s parents brings to mind Machiavelli’s observation that men will more easily forgive the execution of their father than the deprivation of their patrimony
Mumsnet is already on the case.

Excellent piece as usual.

This observation about constraining domestic consumption to increase investment - and the vicious politics of that - is particularly important. It is manifestly not grasped by many - including, concerningly, government ministers.

Doing god's work.
Just asked someone on the train if they didn't have any headphones they could use as the video they were watching was really loud and intrusive. They didn't have any headphones but have apologetically turned it way down and now I feel like a bully.

Dogs do be doing that
Charles Darwin briefly discussed dogs’ senses of humor in the 2nd edition of ‘The Descent of Man’ 👇 and then fleshed those ideas out further in ‘The Expression of Emotion in Man and Animals’

Double glazing salespeople were unfairly maligned. We needed those windows!
i grew up with double glazing so i've never understood why 90s parents and 90s TV ads were obsessed with it. but now we have two single glazed windows, and jesus. the heat just goes straight out of them even with the curtains closed.
