In part I blame dating apps for this. Lots of people now genuinely believe you shouldn't speak to them in public without an appointment.

i think that people who use headphones in public places like trains are selfish. keeping all your cool music and podcasts to yourself is genuinely sociopathic and deranged behavior. play it on your phone's speaker and let everyone enjoy it, or don't play it at all

I think part of why this is so galling is that Labour have *so obviously* been obsessive about trying to court favour over and above doing what they think will be good. Part of the criticism of them is that with a huge majority they have been ultra-cautious about doing unpopular things.

Both are great threads on Google sacrificing its ad business (and the commercial underpinnings of online media) to push AI
This is, of course, a fascinating thread from Kate asking why Google is effectively cannibalizing its own market for both digital ads on third party properties and search ads, by effectively taking away the incentive to click through to third party sites. I have a theory as to why they're doing it.
So this ad revenue metric is indicative of such a fascinating and weird set of business decisions by Google to inexplicably kill of SEO-- and I honestly don't get how they think this is going to pay off for them in the long run.

I thought this was a hyperbolic paraphrase of what Shapiro said, but no, this is the verbatim quote in the clip.
Ben Shapiro: “When the president said deport all the illegal immigrants, I never thought that he meant that literally”

I find the general quality of AI commentary quite low. I don't think the chart is confusing or illustrative at all.

1) Its an investment boom not a consumption boom, and that's okay 2) Consumer sentiment in 2025 has been smacked by Trump policy choices, not really sure why AI is implicated at all.

Talk softly and carry a big stick? Haha, no.
The fundamental point @stephenkb.bsky.social makes about the proposed asylum policy changes is exactly right - the government is baking “legitimate concerns” rhetoric into action in a way that permissions racist/xenophobic rhetoric while claiming to blunt it. And, worse, I think many know this.

The most incessant racist faction in British politics takes this message to be "racism works" (It has shifted politics + policy)

(Laws believes it is important to racially harass minorities online and in person. He has left Homeland because it is too soft on forced removals of UK-born minorities).

This isn't surprising, literally everyone was talking about this.
As GLP-1 drugs for weight loss generate billions for pharmaceutical companies, researchers are exploring their potential for other purposes, such as reducing cravings for illicit drugs and alcohol.

But research on the benefits is limited. https://wapo.st/4oHy2Ip

Legal Systems Very Different To Ours by David Friedman is great if you want to learn about non-moderm criminal justice systems, blood feuds, imperial rulings and stockades. I think they all sound awful! (Apart from the chapter on private prosecutions in 18th century England) amzn.eu/d/iCmxD9h

I‘m tired of being nice about this; “abolitionism” has had years to develop a non-idiot policy program and the best they’ve come up with is ”murder without even the pretense of juridical process.” And I am not nut-picking; this is all over abolitionist writing.
